Highly compact polarization-independent grating coupler

Optics Letters, 2010
We propose a compact polarization-independent output grating coupler, which consists of T-shaped grooves. For only 20 periods on a silicon-on-insulator wafer with a 260nm thick top silicon layer, the output coupling efficiencies for both the TE and the TM modes are larger than 50% in the wavelength range of 1480-1580nm and are approximately 58% around ...

Polarization-independent optical circulator: an experiment

Applied Optics, 1980
Many kinds of optical devices are being researched in various countries for application in optical fiber communication. Some devices have polarization-dependent characteristics that cause a decrease in the coupling efficiency of the optical fibers.

Polarization‐independent planar amplifier array

Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, 1999
A method of amplifying a signal with any polarization using an active microstrip patch reflectarray is presented. A 12-element X-band polarization-independent reflection amplifier is then developed to demonstrate the operation of this type of array. Gain, axial ration, and radiation patterns for this array are presented.© 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Polarization Independent GaAs/AlGaAs Electrooptic Modulator

Proceedings of IEE/LEOS Summer Topical Meetings: Integrated Optoelectronics, 1996
Two designs for polarization independent GaAs-AlGaAs interferometric electrooptic modulators are described. One design uses the linear electrooptic effect to couple degenerate TE/TM eigenmodes of a single-mode waveguide. In the other design the eigenmodes need only be near degenerate.

Polarization independent metasurface energy harvester

2016 IEEE 17th Annual Wireless and Microwave Technology Conference (WAMICON), 2016
We present a polarization independent metasurface electromagnetic energy harvester. A new metasurface harvester is composed of an ensemble of 8 × 8 electrically-small resonators arranged periodically on a Rogers substrate. The harvester is designed in such a way that the maximum power transfer occurs at 2.6 GHz. The proposed harvester has a low profile,

A polarization-independent grating resonator

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1997
A polarization-independent optical resonator based on a novel phase-shifted grating structure is proposed and analyzed. Its application as a polarization-independent optical wavelength filter with ultranarrow bandwidth and fine tunability is described.

Polarization-independent diffractive waveplate optics

2018 IEEE Aerospace Conference, 2018
Diffractive waveplates (DWs) generally diffract light in different directions for the two circular polarizations of light, and the diffraction efficiency of such devices generally falls when the angle through which light is diffracted becomes large.

Waveguide polarization-independent optical circulator

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1999
We fabricated a new type of waveguide polarization-independent optical circulator which does not need a polarization-beam splitter. The circulator is based on a non-reciprocal Mach-Zehnder interferometer which consists of two waveguide Faraday rotators, two thin-film half-waveplates and two planar lightwave circuit-type 3-dB couplers.

Birefringent polarization-independent beam splitter

Applied Optics, 1979
By adjusting both the thickness and angle of the incidence of a birefringent channeled spectrum plate, the extraordinary and ordinary reflectivities can be equalized, thereby providing a polarization-independent beam splitter.

Polarization-Independent Phase-Sensitive Amplification

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2016
We thoroughly analyze the requirements on the signal and idler state of polarizations (SOPs) for achieving maximum amplification in phase-sensitive amplifiers (PSAs). These requirements are described using a Jones-space description as well as a Stokes-space description.
