Abstract An efficient and simple method of fusion splicing of a Polarization-Maintaining Photonic Crystal Fiber (PM-PCF) and a conventional Polarization-Maintaining Fiber (PMF) with a low loss of 0.65 dB in experiment is reported. The minimum bending diameter of the joint can reach 2 cm.

Monomode-polarization-maintaining fiber directional couplers
Optics Letters, 1983The fabrication and experimental evaluation of monomode-fiber directional couplers having polarization-maintaining elliptical-cored fibers is described. The couplers have a polarization isolation of greater than 40 dB and insertion losses of less than 0.5 dB.

L-band mode-locked fiber laser using all polarization-maintaining nonlinear polarization rotation.
Optics Letters, 2023For the first time, to the best of our knowledge, in the soliton regime, we demonstrate an L-band fiber laser mode-locked by all polarization-maintaining (all-PM) nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR).

We propose what we believe to be a novel long-period fiber grating (LPFG) based on a polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) and single-mode fiber. Due to the principal axis of stress, the resonance peak is strongly dependent on the polarization state of ...

Polarization-Maintaining Fiber Long-Period Grating Based Vector Curvature Sensor
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2021We propose and demonstrate an optical fiber vector curvature sensor based on a long-period fiber grating (LPFG) inscribed in Panda type polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) using CO2-laser heating and tapering system. The uniform heating approach removes

Mitigation of transverse mode instability in polarization maintaining, high-power fiber amplifiers
LASE, 2021A new passive mitigation strategy for the effect of transverse mode instability is presented in this work. This technique requires the use of a polarization-maintaining fiber in which light is coupled with a polarization state oriented around 45° with ...

A compound-cavity-based six-wavelength-switchable single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) thulium-doped fiber laser (TDFL) with a homemade polarization-maintaining sampled fiber Bragg grating (PM-SFBG) is proposed and demonstrated. The PM-SFBG in the 2 μm band is

Polarization-maintaining property of tapered polarization-maintaining fibers
Applied Optics, 2013Distributed group birefringence of tapered polarization-maintaining fibers (PMFs) is measured by employing a high-resolution optical frequency-domain reflectometry system. Autocorrelation data processing reveals distributed mode coupling between the fast and slow modes and higher-order modes excited by the tapering process along the taper region.

Polarization maintaining Single-mode fibers
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 1981Polarization-maintaining single-mode fibers will find application in acoustooptic sensors and fiber gyroscopes. In this study both stress-induced birefringence and elliptical core polarization-maintaining single-mode fibers were developed and evaluated.
