Broadband Polarization‐maintaining Fiber Optics

Optik & Photonik, 2015
AbstractModern fluorescence microscopy allows the fundamental building blocks of all life to be studied at a level of detail and accuracy that would have been inconceivable just a few years ago. One example is the movement of intracellular motor proteins responsible for muscle contraction or for the transport of biological cargo along microtubules ...

Polarization-maintaining fiber-optic-grating torsion sensor

2013 6th IEEE/International Conference on Advanced Infocomm Technology (ICAIT), 2013
A compact fiber torsion sensor, in which a short section of polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber stub containing a normal straight fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is spliced to another single-mode fiber without any lateral offset, is proposed and experimentally demonstrated.

Ultrasonic Sensor Using Polarization-Maintaining Optical Fiber

SPIE Proceedings, 1987
The interaction between an ultrasonic wave and the laser beam transmitted through a polarization-maintaining optical fiber is analyzed both theoretically and experimentally. An ultrasonic sensor using a polarization-maintaining optical fiber is optically simple; it is easily matched to the source and detection optics; and it has better stability than ...

An Optical Fiber Hydrophone Using Polarization-Maintaining Fiber

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1984
The stability of output signal of a heterodyne optical fiber hydrophone using polarization-maintaining fiber is investigated. Using polarization-maintaining fiber, fluctuations of frequency-modulated beat signal decrease and the stability of demodulated output signal increases. Measured acoustic sensitivity of the polarization-maintaining fiber is 3.

Practical circular-polarization-maintaining optical fiber

Applied Optics, 1997
The author describes a new idea for making circular-polarization-maintaining optical fiber with an existing fabrication technique. The method simply requires one to spin at a constant rate a special preform consisting of only one off-axis stress-applying element in addition to the on-axis core.

ALL-OPTICAL SWITCHING IN POLARIZATION-MAINTAINING FIBERS

Journal of Nonlinear Optical Physics & Materials, 1992
Dual-wavelength optical switching in a polarization-maintaining fiber is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that the group velocity dispersion, generally considered to be a disadvantage, can be exploited to achieve complete switching for any pair of signal and control pulse durations. In addition, group velocity dispersion

Polarization-Maintaining Optical Fibers

1989
In ordinary axially symmetrical single-mode fibers, two mutually independent orthogonal HE11 modes can propagate. In the framework of Cartesian coordinates, these are the HE11x mode, which has its principal electric field component in the x direction, and the HE11y mode, which has principally the y component of the electric field. We hereafter omit the
