Does Ideological Polarization Lead to Policy Polarization? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
I analyze an election involving two parties who are both office- and policy-motivated and who are ideologically polarized. One party may possess a valence advantage. The parties compete by proposing policies on a second policy issue. The analysis reveals a subtle relationship between ideological polarization and policy polarization.

A Compton Backscattering Polarimeter for Measuring Longitudinal Electron Polarization [PDF]

open access: yesPolarized Gas Targets and Polarized Beams, R. J. Holt and M. A. Miller (eds.), AIP conf. proc. 421 (1998), pp 316-320, 1999
Compton backscattering polarimetry provides a fast measurement of the polarization of an electron beam in a storage ring. Since the method is non-destructive, the polarization of the electrons can be monitored during internal target experiments. At NIKHEF a Compton polarimeter has been constructed to measure the polarization of the longitudinally ...

Longitudinal target polarization dependence of anti-Lambda polarization and polarized strangeness PDFs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
The longitudinal polarization of anti-Lambda produced in the currant fragmentation region of polarized lepton DIS off polarized and unpolarized target is described both in the simple formalism with factorized fragmentation functions as well as within intrinsic strangeness model using string fragmentation implemented into event generator LEPTO.

Explaining Job Polarization: Routine-Biased Technological Change and Offshoring

open access: yes, 2014
This paper documents the pervasiveness of job polarization in 16 Western European countries over the period 1993-2010. It then develops and estimates a framework to explain job polarization using routine-biased technological change and offshoring.

Elastic‐Wave Propagation in Chiral Metamaterials: A Couple‐Stress Theory Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The intrinsic chirality of chiral metamaterials renders an effective medium based on the classical continuum theory ineffective for predicting their acoustic activity. This limitation is addressed in the present study by employing augmented asymptotic homogenization to derive a couple‐stress‐based effective medium, enabling accurate predictions in the ...

Manipulation and enhancement of the performance of Otto cycle in the presence of nonthermal reservoirs

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics
In this work, we investigate the impact of energetic coherence in nonthermal reservoirs on the performance of the Otto cycle. We first focus on the situation where the working substance is a qubit.
