Heterogeneous Integrated Photonics for Nonlinear Frequency Conversion and Polarization Diversity

open access: yes, 2020
Silicon has proven to be one of the materials of choice for many integrated photonic applications. However, silicon photonics is limited by certain material shortcomings. Two shortcomings addressed in this work are zero second-order optical nonlinearity,

Historical Foundation and Practical Guideline for Ferroelectric Switching Kinetic Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The P and U pulses in the conventional PUND measurements are not identical because of the interplay between switching current and the measurement circuit components. This circuit effect can lead to a shift in polarization transients and misinterpreted physics in the switching kinetics.

High‐Index, Low‐Loss Optical Material Platforms for Ultra‐Broadband Ultraviolet‐to‐Visible Achromatic Metalenses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An integrated material platform combining engineered SiNx thin films and printable ZrO2 nanoparticle‐embedded resin enables broadband achromatic metalenses from the ultraviolet to visible range. The demonstrated meta‐optics achieve near‐diffraction‐limited focusing with minimal chromatic aberration.

Mode-coupling polarization rotator based on plasmonic waveguide

open access: yes, 2014
A novel polarization rotator (PR) based on mode coupling in plasmonic waveguides is demonstrated by simulation. A silicon waveguide with asymmetric claddings of silicon oxide and metal is applied to induce a hybridization of the polarization modes ...

Dual‐Function Interface Engineering for δ‐Phase‐Free Crystallization Toward Efficient and Stable FAPbI3 Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a dual‐function interface engineering strategy using PEACl to suppress the formation of the non‐perovskite δ‐FAPbI3 phase at the critical SnO2 buried interface. This approach enables the direct crystallization of the photoactive α‐phase, yielding highly efficient and stable rigid (25.6%) and flexible perovskite solar cells with ...

Binder Engineering Suppresses Jahn–Teller‐Driven Mn Dissolution and Enables High‐Loading MnO2 Cathodes for Aqueous Zn‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Zn2+‐coordinated poly(vinylidene fluoride) binder is shown to suppress Jahn–Teller‐driven Mn dissolution while improving dispersion, wettability, and structural integrity in thick MnO2 cathodes. This simple binder‐engineering strategy enables high‐loading aqueous Zn‐ion batteries with enhanced areal capacity, cycling stability, and practical promise ...
