Underwater Optical Communication Link Using Wavelength Division Multiplexing, Polarization Division Multiplexing and Orbital Angular Momentum Multiplexing

We report on the direct modulation of blue laser diodes for underwater optical communication utilizing wavelength, polarization and space division multiplexing. Using this scalable architecture, we demonstrate an effective data rate of 10 Gbit/s.

Polarization-Division-Multiplexed Nonlinear Frequency Division Multiplexing

We experimentally demonstrate dual-polarization nonlinear frequency division multiplexing using the continuous spectrum in 1680 km of normal dispersion fiber at a burst rate of 128Gbit/s. The DGD penalties are shown to be negligible.

After introducing perturbation terms to the Manakov equation to account for higher-order dispersion and for the Raman effect, we analyze polarization division multiplexing with subpicosecond solitons. Dispersion-shifted single-mode fibers operating at 1.55 /spl mu/m are considered.

An experiment of de-multiplexing for polarization division multiplexing system by PSO algorithm

We report an experiment of de-multiplexing automatically in a polarization division multiplexing system using a DSP based de-multiplexer. The searching algorithm was a modified Particle Swarm Optimization. We successfully demonstrated the de-multiplexing scheme both in a 20-Gb/s PolMux-NRZ-OOK system and a 40-Gb/s PolMux-RZ-DQPSK system.

Cross-Polarization Modulation in Polarization-Division Multiplex Transmission

First Demonstration of Polarization-Multiplexing Combined with On-Chip Mode-Division-Multiplexing

Polarization-multiplexed data is transmitted jointly with on-chip 2-mode mode-division-multiplexed data. Error-free operation and 5 dB of power penalty at an aggregate 40-Gb/s data rate are demonstrated, showing potential for pol-mux and mode-division-multiplexing networks on chip.
