Cross-polarization modulation in polarization-division multiplexed transmission systems

IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topicals 2010, 2010
We introduce the concept of stochastic degrees of freedom to semi-analytically approximate the distribution of nonlinear degree of polarization reduction values observed in numerical simulations as result of cross-polarization modulation.

Polarization management for polarization-division-multiplexing and coherent detection systems

2008 Digest of the IEEE/LEOS Summer Topical Meetings, 2008
In this paper, the authors review different polarization management schemes for PDM and coherent detection, and compare their pros and cons in terms of unit cost, development cost, performances, and implementation feasibility.

First Demonstration of Polarization-Multiplexing Combined with On-Chip Mode-Division-Multiplexing

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2014
Polarization-multiplexed data is transmitted jointly with on-chip 2-mode mode-division-multiplexed data. Error-free operation and 5 dB of power penalty at an aggregate 40-Gb/s data rate are demonstrated, showing potential for pol-mux and mode-division-multiplexing networks on chip.

Variable Polarization/Frequency Division Multiplexing (VPFDM) for Satellite Communications [PDF]

open access: possibleIEEE Vehicular Technology Conference, 2006
To realize advanced broadband mobile satellite communications, this paper proposes a new wireless access approach named variable polarization frequency division multiplexing (VPFDM); it assigns the resources created by dual polarization states as well as frequency bandwidth to customers.

Silicon-Based Hybrid (de)Multiplexer for Wavelength-/Polarization-Division-Multiplexing

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2018
A novel hybrid multiplexer for wavelength-division- multiplexing (WDM) and polarization-division-multiplexing (PDM) is proposed and realized by integrating a polarization-splitter-rotator (PSR) and an optical-filter array based on novel microring resonators (MRRs).

Terahertz polarization-division multiplexing within a four-wire waveguide

2022 Photonics North (PN), 2022
We demonstrate a new metal-wire waveguide topology, namely a four-wire waveguide, which simultaneously acts as a broadband terahertz polarization-division multiplexer and as a novel platform to realize the independent manipulation of polarization-division multiplexed terahertz signals.

Multifunction Lidar System Based on Polarization-Division Multiplexing

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2019
A multifunction lidar system is proposed based on polarization-division multiplexing, by which the distance, velocity, and depolarization ratio of a target can be simultaneously measured. The key component of the lidar system is a polarization-division multiplexing dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (PDM-DMZM).

Underwater Optical Communication Link Using Wavelength Division Multiplexing, Polarization Division Multiplexing and Orbital Angular Momentum Multiplexing

Frontiers in Optics 2016, 2016
We report on the direct modulation of blue laser diodes for underwater optical communication utilizing wavelength, polarization and space division multiplexing. Using this scalable architecture, we demonstrate an effective data rate of 10 Gbit/s.

Polarization dependent effects of radiation on wavelength division multiplexers

SPIE Proceedings, 1994
The effects of radiation on fused biconical taper wavelength division multiplexers are presented. The polarization sensitivity of these devices before and after irradiation is discussed. Preliminary results on the effects of irradiating different regions of the device, and comparisons between the effects of proton and Co 60 radiation sources are also ...

Multiple soliton interactions in a polarization–division multiplexing system

Optics Communications, 1998
Abstract We numerically study multiple soliton interactions in a polarization–division multiplexing transmission system. It is found that, unlike the transmission system of solitons with the same polarization, the two soliton interaction is not the strongest compared to the interaction of more than two solitons.
