This review highlights recent advances in smart face masks that actively monitor breathing. By integrating humidity, gas, temperature, pressure, strain, and triboelectric sensors, these masks track key respiratory parameters in real time. The article summarizes sensor mechanisms, compares performance across studies, and discusses challenges and future ...

The image shows a schematic form a nanobody‐conjugated theranostic prodrug (NBD) platform targeting tumor‐associated αvβ3 integrin. The NBD system integrates selective nanobody‐mediated tumor recognition, glutathione‐responsive disulfide cleavage for doxorubicin release, and aza‐BODIPY‐based near‐infrared fluorescence for real‐time imaging.

Polarization-independent nonlocal metasurfaces
Optica Imaging Congress (3D, COSI, DH, FLatOptics, IS, pcAOP), 2023We design a polarization-independent metasurface using guided resonances with degenerate band curvatures in a photonic crystal slab. Our device can perform both free-space compression and spatial differentiation when operated at different frequencies at normal incidence.

Polarization-independent Talbot effect
Optics Letters, 2015We report the first observation of polarization-independent Talbot effect with a high-density grating for TE and TM polarizations, which is attributed to the identical phases and diffraction efficiencies of the diffraction orders for both polarizations.

Polarization-Independent Electrooptic Depolarizer
Integrated Photonics Research, 1995Optical depolarizers are frequently used in optical measurement equipment as well as in fiberoptic sensors to remove undesired polarization sensitivity [1]. Recently, depolarizers have also been employed in long-haul all-optical communication systems to avoid polarization hole burning (anisotropic gain saturation) in the erbium-doped fiber amplifiers ...

Compact polarization-independent optical circulator
Applied Optics, 1981This paper introduces a compact polarization-independent optical circulator for communications using multimode optical fibers. This circulator consists of two pairs of rutile prisms used as polarization separators, a YIG Faraday rotator, a ring-shaped magnet, and a quartz halfwave plate.

Polarization-independent tunable reflector
2014 16th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics (ANTEM), 2014In this paper, a novel tunable reflector with gain medium was designed, fabricated and measured. By incorporating active elements into two magnetic metamaterial SRRs, gain medium with positive loss, perfect losslessness and even negative loss can be tuned to switch the function of the active reflector among a perfect absorber, a perfect reflector and a

Polarization independent isolator using spatial walkoff polarizers
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1989A novel type of polarization-independent optical isolator is described which utilizes the polarization walkoff provided by birefringent crystals. Isolation of 44 dB is measured at a wavelength of 1.3 mu m with single-mode fiber insertion loss of 1.5 dB.

Polarization-independent tunable optical filters using bilayer polarization gratings
Applied Optics, 2010We demonstrate a polarization-independent tunable optical filter based on switchable polarization gratings (PGs) formed using reactive and nonreactive liquid crystals (LCs). PGs are anisotropic diffraction gratings that exhibit unique properties, including a zero-order transmittance that is independent of incident polarization and that can vary from ...

Highly compact polarization-independent grating coupler
Optics Letters, 2010We propose a compact polarization-independent output grating coupler, which consists of T-shaped grooves. For only 20 periods on a silicon-on-insulator wafer with a 260nm thick top silicon layer, the output coupling efficiencies for both the TE and the TM modes are larger than 50% in the wavelength range of 1480-1580nm and are approximately 58% around ...
