Polarization insensitive perfect absorber with nanorod arrays

open access: yes, 2014
We propose a polarization insensitive near infrared perfect absorber (PA) based on the localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPRs) of nanorod arrays. Polarization insensitivity of our PA structure is achieved by combining two sets of nanorods with x and

Probing Near‐Field EM Fluctuations in Superparamagnetic CoFeB With NV Quantum Dephasometry

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
We non‐invasively investigate the superparamagnetic spin dynamics of a 1.1 nm CoFeB layer by probing its near‐field EM fluctuations using NV centers‐based quantum dephasometry. Our findings are further supported by theoretical modeling and SQUID‐based magnetization characterization. These results provide critical insight into the magnetization dynamics

On‐Chip Saturated Absorption of CO2 in a Silicon‐on‐Sapphire Waveguide

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate the first saturated absorption of a molecular gas on a planar photonic chip. By coupling carbon dioxide with the tightly confined light of a silicon‐on‐sapphire waveguide, we achieve optical saturation using only milliwatt powers. This breakthrough provides a practical, low‐power foundation for creating ultra‐compact mid‐infrared ...

Waveguide Geometry–Driven Trade‐Offs in Resonant Cavity Sensor Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Waveguide geometry governs the interplay between sensitivity, intrinsic Q‐factor, and wavelength noise in silicon nitride resonant sensors. Contrary to intuition, higher sensitivity does not ensure superior performance. Low‐noise, high‐Q ridge resonators achieve the lowest detection limits, revealing that detection is ultimately constrained by noise ...

Performance of the coherent optical binary polarization-shift-keying heterodyne system in free space optical communications using a lognormal atmospheric turbulence model MIC-CPE 2010

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, simulation results for the bit error rate (BER) performance and fading penalty of a coherent optical binary polarization shift keying (2PolSK) heterodyne system adopted for free space optical (FSO) communication links with a log-normal ...

A broadband achromatic polarization-insensitive metalens consisting of anisotropic nanostructures

open access: yes, 2018
Metasurfaces have attracted widespread attention due to an increasing demand of compact and wearable optical devices. For many applications, polarization-insensitive metasurfaces are highly desirable and appear to limit the choice of their constituent ...

Overcoming the Trade‐Off Between Magnetic Coupling and Electrical Insulation in Soft Magnetic Materials via Nanochain Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study employs a nanochain engineering approach combined with an in situ oxidation strategy to fabricate self‐insulating iron‐based magnetic nanochains, addressing the challenge of balancing magnetic coupling and electrical insulation in soft magnetic materials.
