Pollen viability and pollen vigor

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1991
Investigations were carried out to correlate pollen viability, assessed on the basis of a fluorochromatic reaction (FCR) test, with pollen vigor, assessed on the basis of the time taken for in vitro germination in pollen grains subjected to high humidity (>95% RH) and temperature (38 °C) or storage stress of Nicotiana tabacum, Agave sp., Tradescantia ...

Staining Germinating Pollen and Pollen Tubes

Stain Technology, 1958
Germinating pollen on stigmas and pollen tubes in styles of Antirrhinum, Brassica, Oenothera, Raphanus, Rosa, solatium and Tagetes spp. were prepared for examination as follows: The styles were fixed in ethyl alcohol-acetic acid 3:1 for 1 hr, and hydrolyzed at 60°C for 5 to 60 min (depending on the species) in 45% acetic acid.

Pollen

Experientia, 1993
This review deals first with basic knowledge about pollen, especially its biology, morphology and physiology, and then discusses the connection of pollen with medical problems such as hay fever (pollinosis). The next sections cover the historical development of methods for trapping and counting airborne pollen grains to produce reliable quantitative ...

Studies on pollen and pollen extracts

Journal of Allergy, 1931
Summary Skin sensitivity to pollen extracts has been demonstrated in actively immunized rabbits using trypan blue as an aid, after the method of Ramsdell. The reaction is specific, and is more delicate than the precipitin test as indication of an immune response of the animal.

Pollen Identification

Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, 1998
The purpose of this review is to introduce the reader to a systematic approach to categorizing pollen types. This will enable the reader to recognize pollen characteristics of the most common botanical sources and determine the relevant contributors to the local aeroallergen burden.Allergenic plant and pollen atlases for pollen characteristics, allergy

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids in pollen and pollen products

Molecular Nutrition & Food Research, 2010
AbstractRecently, 1,2‐dehydropyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) ester alkaloids, found predominantly as their N‐oxides (PANOs, pyrrolizidine N‐oxides), have been reported in both honey and in pollen obtained directly from PA plants and pollen loads collected by bees, raising the possibility of health risks for consumers of these products.

POLLEN PREVALENCE AND POLLEN-FREE AREAS

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1952
The essential objective in atmospheric pollen research is to learn how much of what kinds of allergenic pollen are likely to be inhaled by sensitized persons at any time and in any locality. This objective may be amplified in further detail as follows: (1) to assist in the clinical evaluation, locally and generally, of known allergenic pollens, (2) to ...

Allergenic Pollen and Pollen Allergy in Europe

2017
Aerobiological and allergological studies show that the pollen map of Europe is changing also as a result of cultural factors (e.g., importation of plants such as birch and cypress for urban parklands), greater international travel (e.g., colonization by ragweed in France, northern Italy, Austria, Hungary, etc.) and climate change.

Pollen

CHI '05 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2005
One of the most trying aspects of growing old is the loss of loved ones. Older people often experience depression as a result of this reality. Without regular contact from friends and family to amend this loneliness, a gap may exist in the individual's social welfare.Through a unique combination of Industrial Design and Interaction Design methods, we ...
