POLLEN GERMINATION AND TUBE GROWTH

Annual Review of Plant Biology, 1997
▪ Abstract  Many aspects of Angiosperm pollen germination and tube growth are discussed including mechanisms of dehydration and rehydration, in vitro germination, pollen coat compounds, the dynamic involvement of cytoskeletal elements (actin, microtubules), calcium ion fluxes, extracellular matrix elements (stylar arabinogalactan proteins), and control

Structural and molecular basis of pollen germination

Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, 2023
Pollen germination is a prerequisite for double fertilization of flowering plants. A comprehensive understanding of the structural and molecular basis of pollen germination holds great potential for crop yield improvement. The pollen aperture serves as the foundation for most plant pollen germination and pollen aperture formation involves the ...

IN VITRO POLLEN GERMINATION OF PEACH CULTIVARS

open access: yesActa Horticulturae, 2007
In vitro pollen germination was determined in five peach cultivars, Prunus prsica (L.) Batsch cv. Dixired, Redheaven, Gloheaven, Suncrest and Summerset, Different sucrose concentrations (10%, 15%, 20%), sowing times (fresh pollen, 7 days old pollen, and 14 days old pollen), temperatures (10 degrees C, 15 degrees C, 20 degrees C, 25 degrees C) and ...

Staining Germinating Pollen and Pollen Tubes

Stain Technology, 1958
Germinating pollen on stigmas and pollen tubes in styles of Antirrhinum, Brassica, Oenothera, Raphanus, Rosa, solatium and Tagetes spp. were prepared for examination as follows: The styles were fixed in ethyl alcohol-acetic acid 3:1 for 1 hr, and hydrolyzed at 60°C for 5 to 60 min (depending on the species) in 45% acetic acid.

Pollen viability, pollen germination and pollen tube growth in the biofuel seed crop Jatropha curcas (Euphorbiaceae)

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Botany, 2012
The fate of pollen and pollen tubes can have a profound effect on fruit and seed production. Experiments were conducted to investigate pollen viability, in vitro pollen germination and in vivo pollen tube growth in the biofuel seed crop Jatropha curcas ...

Proteomics of Pollen Development and Germination

Journal of Proteome Research, 2007
In higher plants, pollen grains represent the vestiges of a highly reduced male gametophyte generation. After germination, the pollen tube delivers the sperm cells by tip-growing to the embryo sac for fertilization. Besides the intrinsic importance for sexual reproduction, pollen development and germination serve as an attractive system to address ...

Ananas pollen germination

Grana, 1979
Abstract The pollen size variations seen among the cultivars of Ananas comosus (Bromeliaceae) and the differences seen in wall reticulations of A. comosus and A. bracteatus are recorded. Among the different cultivars the pollen viability was between 24–92% according to the peroxidase and acetocarmine tests.

Pollen Germination and Pollen Tube Growth

2001
Pollen, the male gametophyte of higher plants, is a biological system playing a central role in sexual plant reproduction (Cresti et al., 1992). The understanding of the mechanisms controlling the various aspects of pollen tube development has a direct relevance to biotechnological applications since it represents a starting point to modify crop ...

RNA synthesis during pollen germination

Planta, 1971
Regulation of pollen germination of Petunia was investigated by determining RNA content and composition in an in vitro system in the presence and absence of the transcription inhibitor actinomycin D and by labelling with C14-orotic acid.At the beginning of the progamic phase 2 stages can be distinguished: First (up to 15 minutes) no essential RNA ...
