Austrocedrus from the Late Cretaceous of Antarctica and its implications for the early evolution of southern cypresses (Callitroideae, Cupressaceae)

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 113, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Premise The modern distribution of the southern cypresses, Callitroideae (Cupressaceae), reflects a classic Gondwanan distribution. The initial diversification of Callitroideae is estimated to have occurred during the Cretaceous, yet fossils from this period are rare, hampering our understanding of its early evolutionary history.

Maize Kernel Composition and Morphology Influences Pericarp Retention During Nixtamalization

open access: yesCereal Chemistry, Volume 103, Issue 5, Page 742-753, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Pericarp retention during nixtamalization directly influences masa quality, affecting texture, machinability, and nutritional content of staple foods such as tortillas and chips. Despite its industrial relevance, the underlying kernel traits that govern pericarp retention remain poorly characterized.

Phylogenetic Constraints and Environmental Filtering Jointly Drive Adaptive Evolution in Phragmites australis: From Genetic Structure to Trait Decoupling on the Mongolian Plateau

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
Integrating landscape genomics and functional traits across the Mongolian Plateau, we reveal that Phragmites australis exhibits a genetic structure shaped by hydrological connectivity and moisture heterogeneity. Crucially, we identify a strategy of evolutionary decoupling where physiological traits remain highly plastic to adapt to local environments ...

Phytochemical Profiling and Antibacterial Activity of Moroccan Monofloral Honeys Against Multidrug‐Resistant Uropathogens: In Vitro, ADMET, Molecular Docking, and Molecular Dynamics Approaches

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
Multidrug‐resistant bacteria infections require alternative antimicrobial strategies. This study evaluated the phenolic composition, antibacterial activity, and in silico properties of four Moroccan monofloral honeys. Carob honey showed the greatest phenolic diversity, whereas citrus honey contained the lowest polyphenolic content.

Natural Product‐Derived Vesicles in Nanotherapeutics

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2026.
Natural product‐derived vesicles (NPVs) are an emerging nature‐based nanotherapeutic that can deliver bioactive metabolites into the target site and induce beneficial mechanisms. A practical, chronological bench‐to‐bedside approach throughout the entire NPV development process is expected to resolve challenges encountered in NPV studies.
