Simple cryopreservation protocol for Luffa pollen: enhancing breeding efficiency

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2023
This study aimed to develop a long-term pollen storage protocol for Luffa species (L. acutangula, L. cylindrica, L. echinata, and L. graveolens) and assess its potential for crop improvement.

Optimising the seed production cycle of Delphinium elatum L. : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Plant Biology at Massey University, Palmerston North [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Delphinium elatum L. (Ranunculaceae) hybrids are developed by Dowdeswell's Delphiniums located at 692 Brunswick Road. Wanganui (www.delphinium.co.nz), who grow delphiniums for seed export. Development of new cultivars is important for commercial purposes,

ZSL Orchestrates Synaptonemal Complex Assembly as a Central Region Scaffold to Ensure Synapsis Fidelity and Crossover Control in Polyploid Meiosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A central molecular adaptor, ZSL, is identified that links transverse filaments ZYP1 to central element SCEP1/2 to drive synaptonemal complex assembly in Brassica napus. Loss of ZSL abolishes synaptonemal complex formation, disrupts meiotic chromosome segregation, and markedly increases crossovers, providing mechanistic insight into meiotic fidelity ...

Optimizing Wheat Pollen Preservation for Enhanced Viability and In Vitro Germination

open access: yesAgronomy
Wheat pollen, which is characterized by its short lifespan, exhibits rapid germination after anthesis. The preservation of wheat pollen is contingent upon environmental factors including temperature, relative humidity, light, and wind.

Long-term Storage of Gladiolus Pollen

open access: yesHortScience, 1984
Abstract Gladiolus pollen from the species Gladiolus alatus, G. debilis, G. guenzii, G. orchidiflorus, G. rodgersii, G. tristis, and G. undulatus can be frozen at -40°C, thawed, and still retain viability. Predried pollen was able to withstand repeated freezing and thawing better than pollen that was freshly frozen.

492 Storage of Abelia R. Br. Pollen [PDF]

open access: yesHortScience, 1999
The genus Abelia contains ≈30 species, but A. × grandiflora, its cultivars, and A. `Edward Goucher' are the primary taxa grown. The nursery industry has stated that Abelia R. Br. taxa are important economically, and new selections or cultivars with increased cold hardiness, richer pink-rose flower colors, unique foliage colors, and compact habits are ...

Penyimpanan Serbuksari Pisang Liar Musa Acuminata Colla Untuk Mendukung Program Pemuliaan Pisang Budidaya [Pollen Storage of Wild Varieties of Musa Acuminata Colla Ensuring Pollen Source for Cultivated Banana Breeding Program] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Research on pollen storage of four varieties and one subspecies of wild banana, Musa acuminata Colla, was carried out to support genetic improvement of banana cultivars through hybridization.

Additive and Partially Dominant Effects from Genomic Variation Contribute to Rice Heterosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Additive and partially dominant effects, namely at mid‐parent levels or values between mid‐parent and parental levels, respectively, are the predominant inheritance patterns of heterosis‐associated molecules. These two genetic effects contribute to heterosis of agronomic traits in both rice and maize, as well as biomass heterosis in Arabidopsis ...

Honey bees preferentially consume freshly-stored pollen. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Honey bees (Apis mellifera) collect and store both honey and pollen in preserved forms. Pollen storage involves the addition of honey or nectar and oral secretions to pollen granules.

Cryopreservation of oil palm pollen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Approximately 5 g of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) pollen was stored in liquid nitrogen from March 1998 to April 2006. Pollen grains that were cryopreserved for up to 8 years retained as high as 54±1.72% viability (compared with 62±4.33% before storage ...
