Pollen viability and pollen vigor
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1991Investigations were carried out to correlate pollen viability, assessed on the basis of a fluorochromatic reaction (FCR) test, with pollen vigor, assessed on the basis of the time taken for in vitro germination in pollen grains subjected to high humidity (>95% RH) and temperature (38 °C) or storage stress of Nicotiana tabacum, Agave sp., Tradescantia ...

The Castanea Miller (Fagaceae) family are commercially important trees in the word, grown for their nuts that are rich in starch and nutrients. The production of nuts is related to pollen fertility, but little is known about pollen viability and ...

Pollen viability affects the probability that a pollen grain deposited on a plant's stigma will produce a viable seed. Because a mature seed is needed before a gene flow event can occur, pollen viability will influence the risk of escape for genetically ...

A method to estimate pollen viability from pollen size variation
American Journal of Botany, 2002The mean diameter of viable pollen grains is approximately 13 μm greater than the mean diameter of inviable grains in Mimulus guttatus. We show that this difference is large enough to be detected by particle counters and that these machines can be used to obtain a rapid estimate of pollen viability.

Pollen Tube Growth in vivo as a Measure of Pollen Viability
Science, 1962Observation by fluorescence of tomato pollen tubes in fixed styles clearly showed that all pollen samples grew regardless of age and fruit or seed setting potential. Methods commonly used to evaluate pollen viability, such as staining and germination, may predict growth in the style but do not always predict seed setting ability.

Impact of elevated CO2 and heat stress on wheat pollen viability and grain production.
Functional Plant Biology, 2021Periods of high temperature and an expected increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration as a result of global climate change are major threats to wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) production.
