PEK14: A Kinesin‐4 Necessary for Male‐Derived Fertility in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Of the 61 kinesins annotated in Arabidopsis thaliana, many are still without assigned function. Here, we have screened an insertional mutant library of Arabidopsis pollen‐expressed kinesins for fertility defects. Insertional mutants for three kinesins showed a significant reduction in seed set.

Nuclear Entanglement: New Insights Into the Role of Cytoskeleton and Nucleoskeleton in Plant Nuclear Function

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Of the three types of cytoskeleton known in animals—actin, microtubules, and intermediate filaments—only actin and microtubules exist in plants. Both play important roles in cellular shaping, organelle movement, organization of the endomembrane system, and cell signaling.

Pollen production, viability and in vitro pollen germination of different litchi (Litchi chinensis) genotypes

open access: yesThe Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2018
Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) is one of the important commercial fruits of the subtropical region. Its short flowering period couple with narrow genetic base serves as the major constraints in litchi genetic improvement.

Longevity and germination of Juniperus communis L. pollen after storage

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Pollen storage belongs among the most important activities associated with pollen handling. It overcomes the differences in pollen shedding and ovule receptivity during controlled pollination experiments.

Pollen viability in Quercus robur L.

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2017
The variability of viability (germination rate and the length of pollen tubes) of fresh pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.) pollen grains was studied in vitro on a medium containing 15% sucrose. Spatial variability was studied by sampling fresh pollen grains from a total of thirteen trees at four different sites in the area of Belgrade ...

Making Two out of One: Kinesin Motors Driving Plant Cell Division

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Kinesin superfamily of microtubule dependent motors is present in all eukaryotes. Not all of the subfamilies are represented in all kingdoms, and the ones that are do not always show conserved functions. Tight control of the cytoskeleton is essential for proper progression and completion of mitosis and cytokinesis, and key functions are ...

In Vitro Live Cell Imaging Reveals Nuclear Dynamics and Role of the Cytoskeleton During Asymmetric Division of Pollen Mitosis I in Nicotiana Benthamiana

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pollen is a male gametophyte of angiosperms. Following meiosis, the microspore undergoes an asymmetric division called pollen mitosis I (PMI), which produces two cells of different sizes: a large vegetative cell and a small generative cell. Polarized nuclear migration and positioning during PMI are important for successful pollen development ...

Development and in vitro evaluation of chitosan nanoparticles encapsulating Phoenix dactylifera L. (Ajwah) seed extract with supporting in silico molecular docking analysis

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract This research describes the engineering of chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs) via ionic gelation to I'm double or somethingencapsulate Ajwah seed extract (ASE), repurposing a plant waste product for its documented antioxidant and anticancer potential.

Selection for persistence of endophyte‐free meadow fescue under intensive grazing versus frequent mowing

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Cattle grazing meadow fescue pasture in remnant oak savanna near Fennimore, Wisconsin. Abstract Background Meadow fescue (Schedonorus pratensis (Huds.) P. Beauv.) is highly adapted to managed rotational grazing systems with sufficient rest periods to promote regrowth and sward longevity.
