Sea‐Ice Induced Southern Ocean Subsurface Warming and Surface Cooling in a Warming Climate

open access: yesAGU Advances, 2020
Much of the Southern Ocean surface south of 55° S cooled and freshened between at least the early 1980s and the early 2010s. Many processes have been proposed to explain the unexpected cooling, including increased winds or freshwater fluxes.

A hierarchical modelling approach to assess multi pollutant effects in time-series studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
When assessing the short term effect of air pollution on health outcomes, it is common practice to consider one pollutant at a time, due to their high correlation. Multi pollutant methods have been recently proposed, mainly consisting of collapsing the different pollutants into air quality indexes or clustering the pollutants and then evaluating the ...

Performance of tidal and non-tidal mangrove constructed wetlands in treating maricultural wastewater

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2022
This study aims to evaluate the removal efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus in the tidal and non-tidal constructed wetlands with typical mangrove (Aegiceras corniculatum) as a wetland plant model to treat simulated marine wastewater. The results showed

Recycling of rural abandoned constructed wetlands: mariculture wastewater treatment

open access: yesWater Reuse, 2021
This study aimed to investigate the behavioral shifts of constructed wetland (CW) when the treated water was changed from domestic wastewater to mariculture wastewater.

Estimation of Air Pollution with Remote Sensing Data: Revealing Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Space [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Air pollution is a major driver of climate change. Anthropogenic emissions from the burning of fossil fuels for transportation and power generation emit large amounts of problematic air pollutants, including Greenhouse Gases (GHGs). Despite the importance of limiting GHG emissions to mitigate climate change, detailed information about the spatial and ...

Polluting Politics [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2015
This paper estimates the causal impact of party affiliation (Republican or Democrat) of U.S. governors on pollution. Using a regression discontinuity design, gubernatorial election data, and air quality data from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), we find that pollution is lower under Democratic governors.

Assessment of the occurrence, spatiotemporal variations and geoaccumulation of fifty-two inorganic elements in sewage sludge: A sludge management revisit

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The limited information about the sludge quality has made its management a top environmental challenge. In the present study, occurrence and the spatiotemporal variations of 52 inorganic elements were investigated in the sludge samples from three ...

Dysfunctional tetraspanin 7 (TSP‐7) in Caenorhabditis elegans promotes; increases in average life‐ & health‐span, stress‐induced survival and motility

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The C. elegans tetraspanin‐7 (tsp‐7) is a homologue of human CD63, which is a negative regulator of autophagy. The C. elegans strain, tm5761, has a dysfunctional (knockout) tsp‐7 gene. When compared to the wild‐type strain, the tm5761 strain shows increased: life‐ and health‐span; thermotolerance, and stress‐induced locomotion.

Rapid and Sensitive Quantification of the Pesticide Lindane by Polymer Modified Electrochemical Sensor

open access: yesSensors, 2021
Lindane is documented by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the most toxic registered pesticides. Conventional detection of lindane in the environment requires manual field sampling and complex, time-consuming analytical sample handling ...

Enhanced discovery of bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase through computer simulation and metagenomic analysis of industrial wastewater

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We obtained potential bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase (LMCO) sequences through metagenomic sequencing. All sequences exhibited significant differences from known LMCOs in databases. To select the most promising candidates, we performed structure prediction and molecular docking using alphafold2, metal3d and rosetta.
