The Use of Artificial Neural Networks to Analyze Greenhouse Gas and Air Pollutant Emissions from the Mining and Quarrying Sector in the European Union

open access: yes, 2020
The European Union (EU) is considered one of the most economically developed regions worldwide. It was driven by the mining industry for several decades. Despite certain changes in this area, a number of mineral and energy resources are still being mined

Selective Benzene Capture by Metal‐Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) hold significant potential for capturing benzene from air emissions and hydrocarbon mixtures in liquid phases. This capability stems from their precisely engineered structures, versatile chemistries, and diverse binding interactions.

City Size, Pollution and Emission Policies [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2018
Abstract This paper develops a model with an endogenous number of cities to explore whether local governments establish the optimal city size when activities in the city are associated with emissions that harm consumers. In contrast to extant research, our model is fully micro-founded with respect to the urban sector and the agglomeration mechanism ...

Carbon and air pollutant emissions from China's cement industry 1990–2015: trends, evolution of technologies and drivers

open access: yes, 2020
China is the largest cement producer and consumer in the world. Cement manufacturing is highly energy-intensive, 12 and is one of the major contributors to carbon dioxide (CO2) and air pollutant emissions, which threatens climate mitigation 13 and air ...

Road Traffic Dynamic Pollutant Emissions Estimation: From Macroscopic Road Information to Microscopic Environmental Impact

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2020
Air pollution poses a major threat to health and climate, yet cities lack simple tools to quantify the costs and effects of their measures and assess those that are most effective in improving air quality.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Detection of Outliers in Pollutant Emissions from the Soto de Ribera Coal-Fired Plant Using Functional Data Analysis: A Case Study in Northern Spain

open access: yesProceedings, 2018
The present research uses two different functional data analysis methods called functional high-density region (HDR) boxplot and functional bagplot. Both methodologies were applied for the outlier detection in the time pollutant emissions curves that ...

Analysis of Pollutant Emission in Poland From Road Vehicles of the Generalised Category in Accordance With the Vehicle Application Criterion

open access: yesEnvironmental Protection and Natural Resources, 2022
This paper presents the results of analyses that were focused on pollutant emissions from road vehicles classified into the generalised categories with respect to vehicle use. The analyses were performed using the authorised results of Poland's pollutant

Impacts of Migration on Urban Environmental Pollutant Emissions in China: A Comparative Perspective

open access: yesChinese Geographical Science, 2020
In recent years, researchers have devoted considerable attention to identifying the causes of urban environmental pollution. To determine whether migrant populations significantly affect urban environments, we examined the relationship between urban ...

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.
