Efficient ozonation of reverse osmosis concentrates from petroleum refinery wastewater using composite metal oxide-loaded alumina

open access: yesPetroleum Science, 2017
Novel Mn–Fe–Mg- and Mn–Fe–Ce-loaded alumina (Mn–Fe–Mg/Al2O3 and Mn–Fe–Ce/Al2O3) were developed to catalytically ozonate reverse osmosis concentrates generated from petroleum refinery wastewaters (PRW-ROC).

Performance and mechanisms of enhanced hydrolysis acidification by adding different iron scraps: Microbial characteristics and fate of iron scraps

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
HA, as one of low-carbon pre-treatment technology could be enhanced by packing of iron or iron oxide powder for enhancing the transformation of large molecular weight to generate volatile fatty acids (VFAs) for fuel production.

Traffic-related air pollution and obesity formation in children: a longitudinal, multilevel analysis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BackgroundBiologically plausible mechanisms link traffic-related air pollution to metabolic disorders and potentially to obesity. Here we sought to determine whether traffic density and traffic-related air pollution were positively associated with growth

Nephelometer Sensitivities for the Determination of PM2.5 Mass Concentration in Ambient and Indoor Air

open access: yesAerosol and Air Quality Research, 2020
Simple algorithms are presented for the relationships between the gravimetrically measured PM2.5 mass concentration and a nephelometer particle scattering coefficient, for three different environments: two outdoor locations (an urban and a suburban) and ...

Polluting Politics [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2015
This paper estimates the causal impact of party affiliation (Republican or Democrat) of U.S. governors on pollution. Using a regression discontinuity design, gubernatorial election data, and air quality data from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), we find that pollution is lower under Democratic governors.

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.
