Polonium-210 in news: an allegory of a misappropriated science. [PDF]
‘I wonder whether it is useful to let men know the secrets of nature. I am one of those who, like Alfred Nobel, ask whether future discoveries will bring more good than harm to mankind.’ These were the words of Pierre Curie at an official Stockholm speech on being awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his pioneering work with radioactivity.

Polonium-210 poisoning: a first-hand account [PDF]
Polonium-210 ((210)Po) gained widespread notoriety after the poisoning and subsequent death of Mr Alexander Litvinenko in London, UK, in 2006. Exposure to (210)Po resulted initially in a clinical course that was indistinguishable from infection or exposure to chemical toxins, such as thallium.A 43-year-old man presented to his local hospital with acute

Sources of Polonium 210 within the troposphere [PDF]
Contemporary technical literature has given consideration to complementary sources of 210 Po (fossil, terrestrial, stratospheric, artificial). A discussion of the importance of these various sources, based on short-time measurements of 210 Po, of 210 Pb, of long-lived nuclides and of products representative of pollution, carried out in S-W France ...

Association of Polonium-210 with Blood
Summary1. When whole blood from polonium-injected rats or dogs was centrifugally fractionated, it was found that approximately 90% of the polonium was associated with the red blood cells. 2. Isolation of hemoglobin from similar blood indicated that the polonium was associated with this portion of the red blood cell.
