Heterogeneity of rabbit serum interferon induced by poly I?C

Two interferon components having different molecular weights were determined by gel filtration studies in non-purified rabbit serum interferon obtained 4 hours after intravenous administration of 200 μg poly I∶C. The high molecular component (M.W. ≧100,000) corresponded to a minor part (16.85 per cent) of the total interferon activity.

We have performed Phase I trials of two synthetic double-stranded polyribonucleotide complexes--poly(I,C)-LC, a complex of polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid with poly-L-lysine and carboxymethylcellulose, and poly(I,C)-L, which lacks carboxymethylcellulose--in patients with advanced cancer.

AbstractThe title compounds were obtained by reaction of aminopyrazoles IV and VII with ω‐acetophenonesulfonyl chloride (II, R = C6H5). In agreement with the general pattern of the distribution of electron density in the pyrazole nucleus, this work confirms that the position 4 of ring is the favoured site of electrophilic attacks.

Poly(I,C)-LC as an interferon inducer in refractory multiple myeloma.

Seven patients with refractory multiple myeloma (readily evaluable for response) were treated in a Phase II trial with poly(I,C)-LC using a 3 times per week intravenous schedule. Serial immunologic testing included assessment of natural killer (NK) cell activity, antibody-dependent cytotoxicity, delayed hypersensitivity, and in vitro mitogen responses.
