Temperature and pH-responsive properties of poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride)-grafting poly(oxypropylene)-amines

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2009
A series of temperature- and pH-responsive copolymers were prepared by grafting poly(oxypropylene)-diamines (POP-amine) onto poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) (SMA) copolymers. Owing to the presence of poly(oxypropylene)-segments in the pendants and their expressive hydrogen bonding properties, the copolymers exhibited lower critical solution ...

Shear-induced mixing and demixing in poly(styrene- co-maleic anhydride)/poly(methyl methacrylate) blends

Journal of Rheology, 1998
The response of macromolecular binary mixtures to shear flow is rather complex. Experimental evidence suggests that both shear-induced mixing and shear-induced demixing, observed as suppression or enhancement of concentration fluctuations, respectively, can occur (Hobbie et al, 1994; Larson, 1992; Takebe et al, 1989), depending on the amount of ...

Reactive blending of nylon 6 and modified poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride); influence of poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) modification by fatty amine onto blend properties

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1997
Blends of PA 6 with SMA or with 12.5–100% fatty amine (C 18) modified SMA at compositions 95/5–60/40 were studied. Particle size of SMA dispersed in PA 6 matrix was around 0.1 μm due to in situ compatibilizer formation. The strength and stiffness of the blends were higher and toughness unchanged in comparison with PA 6 values.

Fluorescent polymer made from chemical modification of poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride)

Reactive and Functional Polymers, 2002
Abstract Poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) (SMA) was modified by commercially available fluorescent dye, 4-amino-N-(2,4-dimethylphenyl)-1,8-naphthalimide, to prepare fluorescent poly(styrene-co-maleimide) (SMI). FT-IR, UV–Vis and fluorescent spectra of this polymer were investigated.

Liquid crystallization of poly(styrene‐co‐maleic anhydride) induced by intermolecular hydrogen bonds

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1999
The liquid crystallization of general polymer (GP) with maleic anhydride in the main chain has been realized through molecular recognition and self-assembly based on intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Poly[styrene-co-(N-4-carboxylphenyl)maleimide] (SMIBA) was synthesized by imidization and dehydration of Poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) (SMA) with p ...

Properties of miscible blends of polyglutarimide with poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride)

Polymer, 1997
In the present study, blends of styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer with polyglutarimide were studied using a variety of methods. The blends were found to be miscible over the entire composition range and showed positive deviations in glass transition temperature from the ideal (linear) behaviour. Fourier transform infra-red spectra of the blends showed

Vibration welding of glass-filled poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride)

Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, 2001
Vibration welding is used to assess the weldability of 16 wt% glass-filled poly(styrene-comaleic anhydride) (16-GF-SMA). Data are presented on the strengths of butt welds for two specimen thicknesses and T-welds for one specimen thickness. The maximum weld strength of butt joints is shown to be only 35% of the tensile strength of the material. T-joints

Synthesis and Characterization of Mesoporous Hypercrosslinked Poly (Styrene Co- Maleic Anhydride) Microspheres

International Journal of Polymeric Materials, 2012
Mesoporous hypercrosslinked styrene and maleic anhydride microspheres were prepared by suspension polymerization using a free radical initiator. Degree of crosslinking was increased by increasing the divinylbenzene content. Scanning electron micrographs revealed the introduction of definite compactness in the microspheres with increase in ...

Preparation and Characterization of Poly (Styrene-Co-Maleic Anhydride)-Modified Boron Particles

Journal of Dispersion Science and Technology, 2010
The surface modification of boron powder with poly (styrene-co-maleic anhydride) (SMA) has been achieved through the reactions between the hydroxy groups on the surface of boron and the maleic anhydride groups in SMA. This novel polymerically modified boron was characterized using IR, TGA, TEM, and laser grain size analyzer.
