Polybenzimidazole-Ester-Imides
Journal of Macromolecular Science: Part A - Chemistry, 1991Abstract Thermostable heterocyclic polymers containing benzimidazole and imide rings, as well as flexible ester groups, have been synthesized by solution polycondensation of diaminobenzimidazoles with dianhydrides incorporating preformed ester linkages.

Polybenzimidazole and polysulfone blends
Polymer Engineering & Science, 1993AbstractPolybenzimidazole (PBI) and polysulfone (PS) do not form miscible blends; however, the tensile modulus and strength of their blend fibers are comparable to, or better than, that of PBI fibers, depending on process conditions. Fibers spun from an 80/20 PBI/PS solution blend have PBI‐like LOI (limiting oxygen indices) and flame shrinkage behavior.

Polybenzimidazoles: Thermally Stable Materials
Journal of Macromolecular Science: Part A - Chemistry, 1977Abstract Polybenzimidazoles were prepared in poly(phosphoric acid) from isophthalic acid (I), terephthalic acid (T), and 3,3′-di-aminobenzidine tetrahydrochloride dihydrate (DAB). Homo-polymers of I, T, and various IT copolymers have been prepared. The polymers were characterized by viscosity, IR spectra, and nitrogen estimation.

Synthesis of new polybenzimidazoles
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Division of Chemical Science, 19681. New polybenzimidazoles containing ether linkages in the polymer chain have been synthesized by a solid phase polycondensation method. 2. The new polymers combine improved solubility in organic solvents with excellent thermal stability.

Solution polymerization of polybenzimidazole
Journal of Polymer Science Part A: Polymer Chemistry, 2016ABSTRACTPolybenzimidazoles (PBI) are an important class of heterocyclic polymers that exhibit high thermal and oxidative stabilities. The two dominant polymerization methods used for the synthesis of PBI are the melt/solid polymerization route and solution polymerization using polyphosphoric acid as the solvent.

Abstract In this work, we synthesize two poly(benzimidazole) (PBIs), i.e., medium molecular weight PBIm and high molecular weight PBIh with 〈Mw〉 = 9.16 × 104 and 1.60 × 105 g/mol, respectively, and two butylsulfonate grafted PBIs (PBI-BSs), i.e., PBIm-BS and PBIh-BS.

Polybenzimidazoles containing anthracene photodimer
Journal of Polymer Science: Polymer Chemistry Edition, 1982AbstractPolybenzimidazoles that contained anthracene photodimer were prepared. The molecular weights of the polymers prepared by the photopolymerization of bis‐anthrylbenzimidazoles were limited by the precipitation of the resulting polymers from the reaction organic solvents. Higher molecular weight polymers were obtained by the photopolymerization of

AbstractPolybenzimidazole (PBI)/polyimide (PI) and PBI/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) blends were prepared. All of these polymers are suitable for acid doping as a matrix because of the existence of the N‐heterocycle in the polymers, which can eventually be used as proton conductors.
