Robust β‐myrcene block copolymer elastomeric vitrimers

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
Myrcene‐based vitrimeric elastomers were compared: statistical (poly(styrene‐stat‐myrcene‐stat‐AAEMA)] versus ‘hard–soft’ diblock (poly(styrene)‐block‐poly(myrcene‐co‐AAEMA)). The diblock's ability to anchor the glassy poly(styrene) blocks in a self‐assembled microstructure was effective – leading to four times higher tensile stress and ten times ...

Exceptionally strong, stiff and hard hybrid material based on an elastomer and isotropically shaped ceramic nanoparticles

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
In this work the fabrication of hard, stiff and strong nanocomposites based on polybutadiene and iron oxide nanoparticles is presented. The nanocomposites are fabricated via a general concept for mechanically superior nanocomposites not based on the ...

Instability of styrene/polystyrene/polybutadiene/polystyrene‐b‐polybutadiene emulsions that emulate styrene polymerization in the presence of polybutadiene

open access: yesPolymer Engineering & Science, 2013
AbstractThis article investigates the room temperature demixing of oil‐in‐oil emulsions containing styrene (St), polybutadiene (PB), a St‐butadiene star block copolymer (BC), and two polystyrene (PS) samples of different molecular weights and is a contribution toward a better understanding of the stability/instability of the reaction mixture in a bulk ...

Effect of recycling on mechanical and physical properties of polycarbonate/acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PC/ABS/PMMA) blends

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
The 100% recycling of optimal polycarbonate/acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PC/ABS/PMMA) blends, identified through the mixture design, over multiple successive cycles provides valuable insights into their life cycle. Subsequently, chemical, rheological, thermal and mechanical characterizations will be carried out to evaluate

Conjugated Polymers Engineered for Flexible/Stretchable Electronics

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
This review highlights glass transition temperature (Tg) as the central parameter linking molecular structure to device performance in conjugated polymers. By tuning backbone rigidity, side‐chain architecture, and dynamic bonding, Tg governs the balance between π–π stacking–enabled charge transport and mechanical compliance.

Synthesis of Carboxyl Terminated Polymyrcene by Anionic Polymerization Using CO2 as a Terminating Agent

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
The anionic polymerization of myrcene and termination with carbon dioxide to produce carboxyl terminated chains were investigated. The highest degree of functionalization was obtained in the batch reactor by headspace addition of the CO2 to the unstirred reactor at −78°C.

Synthesis and Characterization of an Azido Nitrofurazanyl Ether: An Energy‐Rich Heterocyclic Plasticizer With a Low Glass Transition Temperature

open access: yesPropellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We report on the synthesis and characterization of 3‐(2‐(2‐azidoethoxy)ethoxy)‐4‐nitro‐1,2,5‐oxadiazole (NFPEG2N3), which is a liquid nitrofurazanyl ether that was designed to be an energy‐rich plasticizer for glycidyl azide polymer (GAP)‐ and nitrocellulose (NC)‐based formulations.

Purification and Properties of Polyvinyl Nitrate and Its Compatibility With Solid Oxidizers

open access: yesPropellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Polyvinyl nitrate (PVN) is a nitrate‐ester energetic binder that can be produced directly from polyvinyl alcohol—a cheap commodity feedstock—thereby offering potential cost and supply‐chain advantages over binders based on nitrocellulose and other specialty polymers.

Cis-Polybutadiene-Natural Rubber Blends

open access: yes, 1959
The preparation of 1:1 cis-polybutadiene-natural rubber blends has been shown to be feasible on a laboratory scale. Blends of this type have displayed hysteresis properties equivalent to the natural rubber control and have exhibited satisfactory modulus,

Porous Modified Calcium Carbonate as an Efficient Carrier for Gallic and Ascorbic Acids in Humidity‐Activated Oxygen Scavenging Systems

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, EarlyView.
Porous modified calcium carbonate (MCC) is presented as an efficient carrier for humidity‐activated oxygen scavengers based on gallic acid and ascorbic acid. The porous MCC structure preserves high accessibility of the active compounds, enabling effective oxygen scavenging under high relative humidity, with performance governed by loading level ...
