THE SPERMATOZOA OF THE POLYCHAETA (ANNELIDA): AN ULTRASTRUCTURAL REVIEW
Biological Reviews, 1989Summary1. Polychaete sperm are divisible into ect‐aquasperm, ent‐aquasperm, and introsperm.2. Ect‐aquasperm are the commonest type of polychaete sperm and are considered plesiomorphic for the Polychaeta. Re‐evolution of ect‐aquasperm (as neo‐aquasperm) is, nevertheless, tentatively hypothesized for some Sabellida.3.

Studies on the biology of Spirorbinae (Polychaeta)
Journal of Zoology, 1967Of four species studied, tolerance of extreme temperatures in greatest in Spirorbis pagenstecheri (which extends highest on the shore) and least in S. corallinae (which always occurs immersed in water). The latter species breeds between May and August, the other three from May to October. S.

Phylogeny and classification of the Phyllodocidae (Polychaeta)
Zoologica Scripta, 1991The phylogenetic relationships of the benthic phyllodocid genera are estimated by a parsimony analysis based on 26 morphological characters. It is concluded that the cephalization within Eteone has led to a reduction of segment 1 and loss of the first pair of tentacular cirri.

Revision of Lumbricalus (Polychaeta: Lumbrineridae)
Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the UK, 2004Lumbricalus is redefined and revised. Its diagnostic features are chaetae of four types: composite spinigers, composite multidentate hooded hooks, simple multidentate hooded hooks, and limbate chaetae; the maxillary apparatus is labidognath with five pairs of maxillae, maxillae II are shorter than maxillae I with a wide connecting plate along the base ...

The Development of Pleochaeta Polychaeta (Erysiphaceae)
Mycologia, 1963the under surface of the leaves with the appearance of numerous cleistothecia toward the close of the growing season. This study attempts to clarify the portions of the life history of this organism previously unknown or unclear. The location of the pathogen during the different seasons, the morphology of the structures found in each phase of its cycle,

Contributions to the taxonomy of Sabellidae (Polychaeta)
Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 1983The genus Potamilla Malmgren is particularly characterized by dorsal lips which lack any radiolar midrib; Pseudopotamilla Bush by compound radiolar eyes, dorsal collar lappets and flanges alongside the bases of the most dorsal radioles; Demonax Kinberg by a wide dorsal collar gap and companion setae with big heads and narrow blades; and Potamethus ...

Introduction to Annelida and the Class Polychaeta
2015The annelids include terrestrial and aquatic (fresh and marine) earthworms, freshwater and marine worms, leeches, and branchiobdellids. They comprise the dominant invertebrates of the deep sea. Fresh or inland water annelids can be found in all kinds of aquatic and semi-aquatic environments, such as lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, groundwater, wet soils,

Anellida: Holoplanktonic Polychaeta
2017This chapter describes the taxonomy of Polychaeta, an almost exclusively marine group of organisms belonging to the phylum Annelida. With over 10,000 species described worldwide, they represent one of the most abundant animal taxa in the marine environment. The chapter covers their life cycle, ecology, and general morphology. It includes a section that

Reproduction of the Syllidae (Annelida: Polychaeta)
1999Polychaetes of the family Syllidae exhibit a remarkable diversity of reproductive phenomena. The primitive mode of sexual reproduction is characterized by epitoky (as epigamy and stolonization, respectively), swarming and external fertilization. Deviations from the primitive type, particularly evident in meiofaunal species, include external brooding ...
