The Polychaeta or polychaetes are a class of annelid worms, generally marine. Each body segment has a pair of fleshy protrusions called parapodia that bear many bristles, called chaetae, which are made of chitin. Indeed, polychaetes are sometimes referred to as bristle worms. More than 10,000 species are described in this class.

THE NON-POLYCHAETOUS ANNELIDS OF NORFOLK, ENGLAND, WITH ADDITIONAL NOTES ON POLYCHAETES
1972An annotated list is given of the Norfolk marine and brackish-water archian- nelids, oligochaetes, and hirudineans, based on more or less casual records ; none of these species are unusual in any way in the present context, and the only onepreviously found on the Norfolk coast was the skate-leech Pontobdella muricata.
