Polychaetes as environmental indicators revisited

open access: yesMarine Pollution Bulletin, 2005
The utilization of polychaetes in descriptive ecology is reviewed in the light of recent research especially concerning the biota hard bottom environments. Polychaetes, often linked in the past to the concept of opportunistic species able to proliferate after an increase in organic matter, have played an important role especially with regard to ...

Bioluminescence in Pelagic Polychaetes

open access: yesJournal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, 1971
Of six holopelagic polychaete families, the Tomopteridae and Alciopidae are the only ones having representatives that appear to be photogenic. Previous investigators localized the site of photogenic organs to certain parapodial glands in the tomopterids. Photogenic organs have not been demonstrated in the alciopids, but some species have been reported

Lizard Island Polychaete Workshop: sampling sites and a checklist of polychaetes

Zootaxa, 2015
In August 2013, a two week polychaete workshop was held at Lizard Island, Great Barrier Reef. Twenty-one sites representing 121 collection events were sampled for polychetes around Lizard and on the Outer Barrier. Workshop participants sorted polychaetes to family and each participant received on loan selected families to work up.

Cladistics and polychaetes

Zoologica Scripta, 1997
A series of cladistic analyses assesses the status and membership of the taxon Polychaeta. The available literature, and a review by Fauchald & Rouse (1997), on the 80 accepted families of the Polychaeta are used to develop characters and data matrices.
