Isomer composition of polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) was measured for municipal waste incinerator fly ash samples and for emission samples produced from soot and copper-deposit experiments conducted at the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US-EPA). Two types of PCN isomer patterns were identified.

Polychlorinated naphthalene exposures and liver function changes
American Journal of Industrial Medicine, 1997In a clinical assessment for compensation of workers previously exposed to chlorinated naphthalenes, laboratory values demonstrated findings of liver dysfunction. Am. J. Ind. Med. 32:413–416, 1997. © 1997 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Formation of polychlorinated naphthalenes from chlorophenols
Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2005Abstract To test the hypothesis that polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) can be formed from chlorinated phenols via cyclopentadienyl radicals in post-combustion gas containing 8% oxygen, the slow combustion of three chlorophenols (CPs) at 600 °C was studied in a laminar flow reactor. Contrary to the a priori hypothesis, different distributions of PCN

Acute toxicity of polychlorinated naphthalenes and their effect on cytochrome P450
Human and Experimental Toxicology, 2006Polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) are able to induce cytochrome P-450-dependent microsomal monooxygenase activities in vivo and in vitro. The aim of this study was to investigate the toxicity of a PCN mixture, and its effect on the levels of cytochrome P-450 in rats.

Advances in the environmental analysis of polychlorinated naphthalenes and toxaphene
Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2006Recent advances in the analysis of the chlorinated environmental pollutants polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) and toxaphene are highlighted in this review. Method improvements have been realized for PCNs over the past decade in isomer-specific quantification, peak resolution, and the availability of mass-labeled standards.

Atmospheric Environment, 2013
Abstract This study investigated the seasonality of atmospheric polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) in Japan. Polyurethane foam (PUF) disk passive air samplers (PAS) were deployed simultaneously at 55 sites in spring 2008, summer 2008 and winter 2008/09. Sampler deployment spanned 8 continuous weeks in each season.

Polychlorinated naphthalenes in the gas-phase of the Venice Lagoon atmosphere
Atmospheric Environment, 2006The gas-phase concentrations of polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) (16 congeners) were investigated over 1 year at two sites in the Venice Lagoon ('marine' and 'industrial') and at a mainland station ('rural'). SPCN concentrations were mainly composed of lighter congeners and ranged from 191 to 3415 fgm3 with values comparable with those of ...

Formation of polychlorinated naphthalenes on fly ash
Chemosphere, 1998Abstract During the oxidative degradation of carbonaceous material on fly ash, besides PCDD/F, PCPh, PCBz, PCB, polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCN or ClxN) are formed. Thermal experiments were carried out with fly ash from a municipal waste incinerator at 300°C and reaction times of 0.5 h up to 4 h.

Polychlorinated Naphthalenes in the Atmosphere of the United Kingdom
Environmental Science & Technology, 2000Archived extracts from two air sampling campaigns were used to investigate PCNs in the U.K. atmosphere. In the first study, daily air samples were collected at a semi-rural location (Hazelrigg) in northwest England in 1994. Air parcel back-trajectories were used to distinguish air masses that stemmed from distinct sectors, and 18 samples representing ...

Analysis of polychlorinated naphthalenes in environmental samples
Chemosphere, 1984Abstract A method for the analysis of polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCN) has been developed. It is based on a simple clean-up procedure using activated carbon and a mass fragmentographic analysis using the negative ions formed during chemical ionization (NCI). Unlike the technical PCN products we have analyzed, a few isomerides containing four to six
