Congener specific analysis of polychlorinated terphenyls [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In order to identify and to quantify polychlorinated terphenyls (PCT) in environmental matrices, the chro- matographic behavior of coplanar and non-coplanar congeners was evaluated.

Degradation of Polychlorinated Biphenyl Metabolites by Naphthalene-Catabolizing Enzymes [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1998
ABSTRACT The ability of the dehydrogenase and ring cleavage dioxygenase of the naphthalene degradation pathway to transform 3,4-dihydroxylated biphenyl metabolites was investigated. 1,2-Dihydro-1,2-dihydroxynaphthalene dehydrogenase was expressed as a histidine-tagged protein.

State‐of‐the‐Art, Insights, and Perspectives for MOFs‐Nanocomposites and MOF‐Derived (Nano)Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 52, December 29, 2025.
Different approaches to MOF‐NP composite formation, such as ship‐in‐a‐bottle, bottle‐around‐the‐ship and in situ one‐step synthesis, are used. Owing to synergistic effects, the advantageous features of the components of the composites are beneficially combined, and their individual drawbacks are mitigated.

Shellfish Tissue Monitoring in Piscataqua Region Estuaries 2013 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Originally conducted by the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment from 1993 to 2011, the Gulfwatch Program examined trends in the water quality of the Gulf of Maine by monitoring toxic contaminant concentrations in the tissues of shellfish ...

Global Contamination Trends of Persistent Organic Chemicals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Environmental pollution by man-made persistent organic chemicals (POCs) has been a serious global issue for over half a century. Exposure to certain POCs may result in environmental and health effects including skin disorders, liver damage, birth defects,

Micropollutants and Their Interactions With Relevant Environmental Viruses

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2025.
Environmental micropollutants increase virus stability. ABSTRACT Emerging pollutants encompass a diverse array of chemicals classified as micropollutants, including pharmaceuticals and microplastics (MPs). Viruses are known to adsorb onto MPs, including binding to bacterial biofilms that form the plastisphere.

Extent and toxicity of contaminated marine sediments in Southeastern Florida [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Thirty sites were sampled in southern Biscayne Bay and Manatee Bay in December 1999 to determine the extent of toxicity in sediments. Analyses and assays included: pesticides and phenols in seawater; chemical contaminants in sediment; amphipod mortality,

Simple analysis of naphthalene in human whole blood and urine by headspace capillary gas chromatography with large volume injection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Naphthalene is still being sold as a moth repellant; there is a possibility that accidental ingestion of such a product by a small infant causes serious poisoning.

Modeling the Migration and Growth of Shewanella Oneidensis MR‐1 in a Diffusion‐Dominated Microfluidic Gradient Chamber Under the Influence of an Antibiotic Concentration Gradient

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 122, Issue 7, Page 1840-1855, July 2025.
The authors investigate how Shewanella oneidensis navigates toxic environments to access nutrients in a simplified soil environment, combining modeling and experimental data. Their results reveal that motility, rather than chemotaxis, enables bacterial migration into antibiotic‐laden zones to reduce nitrate, suggesting a key mechanism for pollutant ...

Health risks arising from the dietary intake of chemical contaminants: a case study of the consumption of edible marine species in Catalonia, NE Spain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Actualment, està ben establert que la ingesta dietètica és la principal via d'exposició humana a metalls i compostos orgànics persistents (COP). L'any 2000, el nostre laboratori va començar una exhaustiva investigació sobre l'exposició dietètica a ...
