Abstract The use of Raman spectroscopy, and in particular Raman line shifts, to measure stress in diamond and nitrides such as gallium nitride (GaN), is well known. In both diamond and GaN the application is principally to study stresses in thin films and at the substrate–thin film interface.

Diamond deposition on polycrystalline films of cubic boron nitride
Applied Physics Letters, 1993We have grown diamond films on films of cubic boron nitride (cBN). The cBN films were grown on Si(100) substrates using ion-assisted pulsed laser deposition. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy indicated that the BN films contained ∼75% sp3-bonded cBN.

Electrical properties of Be-implanted polycrystalline cubic boron nitride films
Applied Physics Letters, 2008P -type conductivity of polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (cBN) films was achieved by implantation of beryllium ions. The effects of implantation doses and annealing on the phase composition and electrical properties of cBN films were studied. A reduction in resistivity by seven orders of magnitude was observed.
