The Lewis Pair Polymerization of Lactones Using Metal Halides and N-Heterocyclic Olefins: Theoretical Insights

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Lewis pair polymerization employing N-Heterocyclic olefins (NHOs) and simple metal halides as co-catalysts has emerged as a useful tool to polymerize diverse lactones. To elucidate some of the mechanistic aspects that remain unclear to date and to better

Wound Geometry Determines Whether Aligned‐Fiber Scaffolds Accelerate or Impede Diabetic Wound Healing: A Biased Random Walk Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Wound closure is governed by geometry‐orientation coupling: aligned fibers speed migration along their axis but hinder perpendicular advance. In vivo diabetic wound experiments with composition‐matched fibrin, combined with an anisotropic diffusion (biased random‐walk) model, quantify this trade‐off and generate a healing landscape.

Thermo‐Fluorescent Bactericidal Quantum Dots Based Smart Multifunctional Textiles via Molecular Surface Engineering and 3D‐Printed Interlocked Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A versatile approach is presented for fabricating smart multifunctional textiles by integrating thermo‐fluorescent carbon dot/polymer nanocomposite coatings with 3D‐printed interlocked architectures. The fabrics exhibit temperature‐responsive fluorescence, durable hydrophobicity, strong antibacterial and antioxidant activity, and enhanced UV protection.

Effects of alkylene spacer length of 2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylic acid polyesters on biodegradability and metal adhesive properties

open access: yesNPG Asia Materials
2-Pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylic acid (PDC) is a lignin-derived biometabolic intermediate that can be produced on a large scale by using transforming bacteria and can be directly polymerized by polycondensation with diols to produce biomass polyesters.

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

Using a polyester binder for the interlaminar toughening of glass/epoxy composite laminates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Bisphenol A based polyester is commonly used in the industry as a binder, or tackifier, to produce cost-saving preforms in Liquid Composite Moulding processes such as Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Moulding (VARTM). However, it is often reported that the
