Macrocyclic Polyethers and Their Complexes

Angewandte Chemie International Edition in English, 1972
Abstract The most important, and almost unique, property of the macrocyclic polyethers (“crown compounds”) is their tendency to form complexes with alkali metal salts and salts with similar cations. Such complexes are held together by electrostatic attraction between the cation and the negative end of the CO dipoles. The stability of

The Evolution of Temporal Polyethism

Artificial Life 13, 2012
Temporal polyethism is a method of division of labor exhibited by many eusocial insect colonies, where the type of task an individual attempts is correlated with its age. The evolutionary pressures that give rise to this widely-observed pattern are still not fully known.

Polyether antibiotic CP44,161

Acta Crystallographica Section C Crystal Structure Communications, 2001
The crystal structure of antibiotic CP44,161, 6-(7-(2-ethyl-2-[5-(1-hydroxymethyl)-5-methyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-2-furyl]-4,10,-12-trimethyl-1,6,8-trioxadispiro[4.1.5.3]pentadec-13-en-9-yl)-4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethyl-6-oxononyl)-2-hydroxy-3-methylbenzoic acid monohydrate, C43H66O10.H2O, has been determined by X-ray crystallography.

Polyethers with Reactive Side Chains—Hydroxy Polyethers

Journal of Macromolecular Science: Part A - Chemistry, 1985
Abstract The author' work on preparing polyethers with reactive side chains is reviewed with emphasis on hydroxy polyethers. High molecular weight hydroxy polyethers were prepared by polymerizing epoxides containing a hydroxyl group protected with an appropriate group such as SiMe3 and then removing it by hydrolysis.

Polyether Polyurethanes: Biostable or Not?

Journal of Biomaterials Applications, 1988
Certain polyether polyurethanes have been shown to be biostable in long-term implant studies. Others retain good bulk properties, but have been shown to develop cracks on their tissue contacting surfaces. Two cracking mechanisms have been identified, in vivo stress cracking and metal ion oxidation.

Microbial degradation of polyethers

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2002
This paper summarizes studies on microbial degradation of polyethers. Polyethers are aerobically metabolized through common mechanisms (oxidation of terminal alcohol groups followed by terminal ether cleavage), well-characterized examples being found with polyethylene glycol (PEG).
