Environmental Stress Induces Altered Composition of Streptococcus mutans Membrane Vesicles: pH‐Driven Changes in Membrane Vesicle Production and Composition

open access: yesMolecular Oral Microbiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Bacteria produce membrane vesicles (MVs) in response to environmental stress and genetic changes. Previous studies have shown that MVs can trigger inflammatory responses and may serve as important mediators of host–microbe interactions. Given the dynamic nature of the oral microbiome, bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans are frequently ...

Developing and Evaluating Aquatic Passive Sampling of Environmental DNA for Microbial Community Profiling

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 26, Issue 3, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding has transformed biodiversity monitoring across taxa from bacteria to mammals, yet sample collection remains a major bottleneck. Passive sampling via adsorption and entrapment has emerged as a promising alternative to overcome the limitations of conventional active filtration.

Validating COI eDNA Metabarcoding Primers for Detection of Subterranean Fauna

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 26, Issue 3, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Subterranean ecosystems host a diverse range of ancient fauna, but studying these ecosystems is challenging due to significant sampling difficulties. Environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding offers a promising approach for monitoring subterranean biodiversity, yet issues such as primer bias and non‐target amplification can complicate its ...

ORMDL Proteins Turnover via Proteasome and Autophagy Is Cell‐Type Dependent and Tied to Ceramide Homeostasis

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 6, 31 March 2026.
ORMDL proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) negatively regulate serine palmitoyltransferase (SPT) activity in response to the rate of de novo sphingolipid synthesis. Disruption of ceramide homeostasis by myriocin or fumonisin B1 (FB1) appears to destabilize the ORMDL‐SPT complex, leading to ORMDL degradation as a feedback mechanism.
