Scalable Layer‐by‐Layer Electrospray‐Assisted Interfacial Polymerization: Enabling Large‐Area Polyamide Membrane Fabrication

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We report a multi‐jet, layer‐by‐layer electrospray‐assisted interfacial polymerization (LBL‐EAIP) approach for the scalable fabrication of polyamide reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. The method enables precise control of polymerization, uniform polyamide coverage, and tunable polyamide film thickness, while delivering consistently high filtration ...

Aminolysis-Based Zwitterionic Immobilization on Polyethersulfone Membranes for Enhanced Hemocompatibility: Experimental, Computational, and Ex Vivo Investigations

open access: yesBiomimetics
Dialysis membranes are not hemocompatible with human blood, as the patients are suffering from the blood–membrane interactions’ side effects. Zwitterionic structures have shown improved hemocompatibility; however, their complicated synthesis hinders ...

Stretching Micro Metal Particles into Uniformly Dispersed and Sized Nanoparticles in Polymer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
There is a longstanding challenge to disperse metal nanoparticles uniformly in bulk polymers for widespread applications. Conventional scale-down techniques often are only able to shrink larger elements (such as microparticles and microfibers) into micro/

Evaluating Bicarbonate Electrolyzer Configurations for Energy‐Efficient Formate Production

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Reactive carbon capture (RCC) with bicarbonate electrolyzers (BEs) offers an efficient alternative to gas‐fed CO2 electrolyzers by eliminating regeneration and pressurization steps. This study optimizes BE configurations and compares RCC chains to gas‐fed carbon chains for formate production.

Competition Between Liquid‐Liquid Crystalline Phase Separation (LLCPS) and Liquid‐Liquid Phase Separation (LLPS) in Amyloid Fibril Colloidal Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that amyloid fibrils form nematic condensates via liquid–liquid crystalline phase separation (LLCPS). With increasing pH, this transition shifts toward disordered condensates formed through liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS), in which birefringence with lack of a coherent nematic field symmetry originates from enthalpic fibril ...

Polymer‐in‐Cage Strategy for Pore Tuning of High‐Aspect Ratio ZIF Nanoplate: Toward Sub‐Micrometer‐Thick Large Area CO2 Separation Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A “polymer‐in‐cage” strategy transforms a zinc‐acrylate copolymer into an active pore‐modulating agent for ZIF‐8 nanoplates. The polymer actively tunes the MOF's pore structure by anchoring within its windows, while the nanoplates create tortuous pathways.

Divergent behavior of hydrogen sulfide pools and of the sulfur metabolite lanthionine, a novel uremic toxin, in dialysis patients. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Dialysis patients display a high cardiovascular mortality, the causes of which are still not completely explained, but are related to uremic toxicity.
