Comparison of Alumina-Polyethylene and Metal-Polyethylene in Clinical Trials
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1992The dimensional changes of hip sockets of Müller-type total endoprostheses is the subject of this article. Regular anteroposterior roentgenographs of the pelvis were taken to determine the orientation of the center of the prosthetic head in relation to the wire marker of the polyethylene cup.

Subsurface oxidation of polyethylene
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1998Since the 1960s ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene has been a primary bearing material in orthopedic prostheses. Most polyethylene components have been sterilized by exposure to gamma radiation, but in the presence of oxygen this promotes degradation and correlates with component failure in the body.

Polyethylene Blends: Better Formulations for Recycled Polyethylene
Macromolecular Symposia, 2012AbstractSummary: To evaluate the performance of recycled high density polyethylene for pipe applications, blends containing 10, 30 and 50% of recycled in a PE T100N matrix were prepared and characterized using several instrumental analysis methods.

Polyethylene (PE) has been considered nonbiodegradable for decades. Although the biodegradation of PE by bacterial cultures has been occasionally described, valid evidence of PE biodegradation has remained limited in the literature.

Polymer Degradation and Stability, 1995
The thermal degradation (or thermolysis) of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) was studied at moderate temperatures, 425–450 °C, under an inert atmosphere. One potential application for the products of polyethylene thermolysis is in the production of synthetic lubricants.

Novel hydrophilic chitosan‐polyethylene oxide nanoparticles as protein carriers
, 1997Hydrophilic nanoparticulate carriers have important potential applications for the administration of therapeutic molecules. The recently developed hydrophobic-hydrophilic carriers require the use of organic solvents for their preparation and have a ...

Motion in Polyethylene. II. Vibrations in Crystalline Polyethylene
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1962Using the specific heats of completely crystalline polyethylene as a basis, the vibrational spectrum is discussed. The vibrational spectrum is found to consist of three completely separate parts. (A) The high-frequency CH2-stretching vibrations between 2850 and 2930 cm—1 which contribute little to the specific heat below 350°K.

Polyethylene (PE), despite having the simplest basic structure of any polymer (a repetition of CH2 units), is the largest tonnage plastics material. The main attractive features of PE are its low price, excellent electrical insulation over a wide range of frequencies, very good chemical resistance, good processability, toughness, flexibility, and—in ...

Publisher Summary This chapter opens with the general discussion of joining techniques regarding polyethylene terephthalate. Mouldings may be joined by the use of adhesives, by ultrasonic welding or mechanically by self-tapping inserts. Epoxy and cyanoacrylate adhesives are particularly effective.
