Exact Topological Twistons in Crystalline Polyethylene [PDF]

open access: yesChem.Phys.Lett. 320 (2000) 587-593, 2000
We investigate the presence of topological twistons in crystalline polyethylene. We describe crystalline polyethylene with a model that couples the torsional and longitudinal degrees of freedom of the polymeric chain by means of a system of two real scalar fields.

Atomic scale mechanisms controlling the oxidation of polyethylene: a first principles study [PDF]

open access: yeshttps://www.mdpi.com/2073-4360/13/13/2143, 2021
Understanding the degradation mechanisms of aliphatic polymers by thermal oxidation and radio-oxidation is very important in order to assess their lifetime in a variety of industrial applications. We focus here on polyethylene as a prototypical aliphatic polymer.

Space Charge Characteristics and Electrical Properties of Micro-Nano ZnO/LDPE Composites

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
The synergistic effects of zinc oxide (ZnO) Micro/Nano particles simultaneously filled in low-density polyethylene (LDPE) on the space charge characteristics and electrical properties has been investigated by melt blending micro-scale and nanoscale ZnO ...

Laser-assisted photothermal imprinting of nanocomposite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We report on a laser-assisted photothermal imprinting method for directly patterning carbon nanofiber-reinforced polyethylene nanocomposite. A single laser pulse from a solid state Nd:YAG laser (10 ns pulse, 532 nm and 355 nm wavelengths) is used to ...

Black Plastic Tarps Advance Organic Reduced Tillage I: Impact on Soils, Weed Seed Survival, and Crop Residue

open access: yesHortScience, 2020
Intensive tillage degrades soil structure, decreases soil organic matter, and can cause soil compaction and erosion over time. Organic vegetable farmers are often dependent on tillage to incorporate crop residue, control weeds, and prepare seedbeds ...

Effects of Ti/Mg molar ratio on bi-supported SiO2/MgCl2 (ethoxide type)/TiCl4 catalysts in ethylene homopolymerization and ethylene/1-hexene copolymerization [PDF]

open access: yesPolyolefins Journal, 2018
SiO2/MgCl2 (ethoxide type)/TiCl4 Ziegler-Natta catalysts for use in ethylene polymerization and ethylene/1-hexene copolymerization have been prepared using silica with a supported layer of magnesium ethoxide (Mg(OEt)2) as a catalyst precursor, followed ...

Radiative human body cooling by nanoporous polyethylene textile

open access: yesScience, 2016
Thermal management through personal heating and cooling is a strategy by which to expand indoor temperature setpoint range for large energy saving. We show that nanoporous polyethylene (nanoPE) is transparent to mid-infrared human body radiation but ...

High porosity polyethylene aerogels [PDF]

open access: yesPolyolefins Journal, 2015
Monolithic aerogels of high molecular weight polyethylene (Mw= 3x106- 6x106 g/mol) have been prepared by solvent extraction with supercritical carbon dioxide from thermoreversible gels prepared in decalin.
