ポリエチレンテレフタレートを溶融点以下の高温で固体の状態で減圧加熱し,重縮合反応が進行することを確認し,得られた重合物が通常の溶融重合によって得られたものとほとんど変らぬことを分別によって確かめ,既報で報告した熱風中固相での160~180℃での急激な化学的挙動の変化が,分解反応でなく,重縮合反応の形で急激に速くなることが見出された。また予想したように,チップ状から粉末状に表面積を増すことによって,反応速度がいちじるしく大きくなることを確認し,EG拡散が律速段階であろうと推論した。また,この方法で溶融法で得られにくい高重合度のものが得られる。
