Airborne microplastics over the Baltic: the role of sea-spray emission

open access: yes, 2022
The concentrations of both atmospheric and marine MPs were measured over the Baltic along a research cruise that started in the Gdansk harbour, till the Gotland Island, and during the way back. A "Deposition box" was used to collect airborne MPs.

A novel light diffuser based on the combined morphology of polymer networks and polymer balls in a polymer dispersed liquid crystals film

open access: yes, 2018
A novel light diffuser based on a thermally cured polymer dispersed liquid crystal film was made by thermally curing epoxy monomers with thiols and polyamine in a solution of monomers and liquid crystals between two transparent polyethylene ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Airborne and marine microplastics from an oceanographic survey at the Baltic Sea : An emerging role of air-sea interaction?

open access: yes, 2022
Microplastics (MPs) pollution is one of the most important problems of the Earth. They have been found in all the natural environments, including oceans and the atmosphere.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Hydrophobic Recovery of Plasma-Hydrophilized Polyethylene Terephthalate Polymers

open access: yesPolymers, 2022
Oxygen plasma is widely used for enhancing the wettability of numerous polymers, including polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The treatment with plasma containing oxygen will cause surface functionalization with polar functional groups, which will, in ...
