Cytotoxic Compounds from Polygala vulgaris.

open access: yesChemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 2002
To search for antitumor agents from plants, we studied Polygala vulgaris since cytotoxic lignans are known to occur in some Polygala species. Preliminary data on plant petrol ether, chloroform, and methanol extracts from the roots and aerial parts, showed in vitro cytotoxic activity against the solid tumor LoVo cell line.

Habitat Disturbance Promotes Shifts in the Abundance of Major Fungal Phyla in the Roots of a Native Orchid, Tipularia discolor

open access: yesPlant-Environment Interactions, Volume 6, Issue 6, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Orchids are a widely distributed group of flowering plants with important roles in ecosystems around the globe. However, many species are in decline due, in part, to human‐driven changes in their habitat. It is well established that orchids are reliant on specific groups of mycorrhizal fungi for growth and reproduction and that these fungi can

Adaptation of a Physiologically Based Model to Predict the Phenology of Philaenus spumarius, the Meadow Spittlebug

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 177, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
ABSTRACT The importance of Philaenus spumarius has grown considerably due to its role as a vector of Xylella fastidiosa (Xf), the bacterium responsible for olive quick decline syndrome (OQDS). Effective containment of Xf largely depends on vector management, including soil tillage to disrupt juvenile stages and timely insecticide applications to ...

Adaptive plant traits under anthropogenic burning regimes: A database for UK heath and mire plant species

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 112, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Premise Humans have used fire to manage landscapes for millennia, but this use of fire is declining in many ecosystems. Understanding how plants respond to these changes is key to predicting ecosystem resilience and impacts on services such as biodiversity and carbon sequestration. However, many ecosystems lack data on plant fire responses.
