Design and Development of Xanthone Hybrid for Potent Anti‐Inflammatory Effects: Synthesis and Evaluation

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 29, Issue 6, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Inflammatory responses, while essential for host defence, can precipitate chronic pathologies when sustained. The polyphenolic entity xanthone is distinguished by its capacity to modulate inflammation, notably via the inhibition of the COX‐2 enzyme and associated inflammatory pathways.

Drastic mycorrhizal community shifts in Sceptridium ferns during the generation transition from fully mycoheterotrophic gametophytes to photosynthetic sporophytes

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 245, Issue 4, Page 1705-1717, February 2025.
Summary Many plant species experience a prolonged subterranean phase during which they rely entirely on mycorrhizal fungi for carbon. While this mycoheterotrophic strategy spans liverworts, lycophytes, and ferns, most empirical research has centered on angiosperms.

Not only transitions in nutritional modes but also niche shifts facilitate mycorrhizal fungal specialization in Burmannia

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 1, Page 209-225, January 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Mycoheterotrophs are non‐photosynthetic plants that obtain all of their carbon requirements through parasitizing mycorrhizal fungi. They originated from the autotrophic ancestors and usually have more specific relationships with fungi than that of green plants, for ...
