To assess the safety and efficacy of 7/0 Vicryl and 7/0 Vicryl rapide sutures for skin closure, and without suture removal, in ophthalmic plastic surgery.A prospective, comparative study of 40 consecutive procedures in 32 patients. Tissue reactions to the sutures, completeness of wound healing, and number of sutures remaining were observed at first ...

The Use of Vicryl Mesh (Polyglactin 910) for Implantation of Hydroxyapatite Orbital Implants
Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 1995Hydroxyapatite (HA) implants currently are most commonly wrapped in donor sclera before implantation to facilitate placement within the orbit and allow attachment of the extraocular muscles. Although the risk of acquiring a transmittable disease through donor sclera is extremely low, some individuals remain concerned about receiving nonautologous ...

Nano-indentation Studies of Polyglactin 910 Monofilament Sutures
2011Nano-indentation studies using atomic force microscopy (AFM) were introduced to investigate the effects of hydrolysis degradation on mechanical properties of polyglactin 910 monofilament sutures. The polyglactin 910 sutures were immersed in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) solution of pH 5, 7.4, 10 without enzyme and pH 7.4 with esterase enzyme.

The use of vicryl (polyglactin 910) sutures in colonic and rectal surgery
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1977Vicryl suture has proved to be an excellent material for intestinal surgery. It performed well in 40 surgical procedures involving the small bowel, colon and rectum. It is particularly suitable for use in the presence of contamination or infection, since its rate of absorption is unaffected by the presence of inflammatory cells, in contradistinction to

Summary Introduction Two different types of suture are used in our unit after wisdom tooth extraction, Polyglactin 910 [PGS] (Vicryl ® , Ethicon) and rapid absorption irradiated Polyglactin 910 [PGI]. No objective comparative study was available so we decided to conduct a preliminary prospective study to check if there was any difference between ...
