A One‐Dimensional (1D) Computational Fluid Dynamics Study of Fontan‐Associated Liver Disease (FALD)

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering, Volume 42, Issue 1, January 2026.
Fontan‐associated liver disease (FALD) is a disorder arising from congestion in the liver. This disease is prominent in patients with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). Through perfusion analysis, we find that as FALD progresses, there are increased pressures and decreased flow to certain regions of liver tissue.

Urban and Wild Kelp Gulls: Tracking Seasonal Shifts in Habitat Use and Movement Patterns

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
Kelp gull (Larus dominicanus) nesting on a rooftop in Coquimbo. Photo by C. E. Fernández. ABSTRACT Humans impact the environment through a myriad of activities, including urbanisation. While some wildlife species struggle to cope with urban development, others might benefit from it.

Beyond Exponential Decay: How Biphasic and Delayed Decay Dynamics Shape Marine eDNA Dispersal

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
We used a multiprong approach with a literature review of eDNA decay experiments, an experimental study of empirical decay patterns, and high‐resolution Lagrangian particle tracking to quantify how different decay patterns drive eDNA dispersal at two contrasted locations in the Bay of Biscay, Northeast Atlantic.

Fluvial deposits of the Ahr river (western Germany) reveal recurring high‐magnitude flood events over the last 1,500 years

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 1, January 2026.
Floods are one of the most critical environmental threats in Central Europe. We show the importance of geomorphological records from Ahr flood deposits for reconstructing past high‐magnitude flood events. Our chemolithostratigraphical analysis shows that centennial to millennial scale high‐energy flooding is not the exception but the rule in the Ahr ...
