Geometrical Theory on Combinatorial Manifolds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Topological and differential structures such as those of d-pathwise connected, homotopy classes, fundamental d-groups in topology and tangent vector fields, tensor fields, connections, Minkowski norms in differential geometry on these finitely ...

Polyhedral representations of discrete differential manifolds [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Physics, 1997
Any discrete differential manifold M (a finite set endowed with an algebraic differential calculus) can be represented by appropriate polyhedron P(M). The representation is proved to be exact for a special class of manifolds called basic. The links with the finitary substitutes of continuous spaces introduced by R. Sorkin are established.

Dehn surgeries and negative-definite four-manifolds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Given a knot K in the three-sphere, we address the question: Which Dehn surgeries on K bound negative-definite four-manifolds?

Materials Representation Learning Based on a Material–Motif Network and Heterogeneous Graphs

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Structure motifs in materials are used to construct a bipartite material–motif network that links each material to its constituent motifs and establishes connectivity among materials sharing common motifs. Network analysis reveals material clusters associated with different functional applications and supports motif‐guided screening of materials.

The minimal entropy problem for 3-manifolds with zero simplicial volume [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In this note, we consider the minimal entropy problem, namely the question of whether there exists a smooth metric of minimal (topological) entropy, for certain classes of closed 3 ...

Accelerating Materials Discovery: A Review of Machine Learning in X‐Ray Absorption Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This review systematically details how machine learning transforms X‐ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) analysis. It covers advanced deep learning architectures for structure‐spectra mapping and inverse tasks, while discussing key challenges like the simulation‐to‐reality gap.

Hepatic morphology and serum biochemical profile according to dry and rainy seasons in Pygocentrus nattereri (Characiformes: Serrasalmidae)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigated the physiological and morphological adaptations of the liver of the carnivorous fish Pygocentrus nattereri (piranha) in response to seasonal variations (dry and rainy seasons) in the Brazilian Pantanal. The objective was to describe how the liver, a central organ in metabolic regulation, responds to environmental ...

PAPER MODELS OF SURFACES WITH CURVATURE CREATIVE VISUALIZATION LABS BALTIMORE JOINT MATHEMATICS MEETINGS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A model of a cone can be constructed from a piece of paper by removing a wedge and taping the edges together. The paper models discussed here expand on this idea (one or more wedges are added and/or removed).

Computational fluid dynamics simulations of airflow through the nasal passages of rhinolophoid bats

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The nasal passages of bats that emit their echolocation call through their nostrils have adapted for sound emission as well as standard respiratory and olfactory functions. Rhinolophids, hipposiderids and rhinonycterids all use a high duty cycle (HDC) echolocation strategy.

Porous Carbon Materials for Carbon Dioxide Capture

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
This work aims to address the current status and challenges associated with the regulation of pore structures, as well as the influence of pore structures on CO2 capture. Systematic quantitative analysis of structure–property relationships, combined with machine learning approaches, can effectively evaluate the contributions of structural ...
