A curvature theory for discrete surfaces based on mesh parallelity

open access: yes, 2009
We consider a general theory of curvatures of discrete surfaces equipped with edgewise parallel Gauss images, and where mean and Gaussian curvatures of faces are derived from the faces' areas and mixed areas.

A Virtual Element Method for a (2+1)-Dimensional Wave Equation with Time-Fractional Dissipation on Polygonal Meshes

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
We propose a novel space-time discretization method for a time-fractional dissipative wave equation. The approach employs a structured framework in which a fully discrete formulation is produced by combining virtual elements for spatial discretization ...

Zero Thermal Expansion and Local Structure in KxMnxFe2‐xMo3O12‐Based Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Local structure engineering via ion insertion drives local structural transformation from low‐symmetry P21/a to high‐symmetry R‐3c, enhancing structural flexibility and realizing a transition from positive thermal expansion to wide‐temperature‐range zero thermal expansion in KxMnxFe2‐xMo3O12‐based materials.

Coherent Mesh Representation for Parallel I/O of Unstructured Polyhedral Meshes

open access: yesThe Journal of Supercomputing
Abstract This paper presents a new mesh data layout for parallel I/O of linear unstructured polyhedral meshes. The new mesh representation infers coherence across entities of different topological dimensions, i.e. grid cells, faces, and points.

Exact Geosedics and Shortest Paths on Polyhedral Surface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We present two algorithms for computing distances along a non-convex polyhedral surface. The first algorithm computes exact minimal-geodesic distances and the second algorithm combines these distances to compute exact shortest-path distances along the ...

Universal Oxychlorination Strategy in Halide Solid Electrolytes for All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A WO2Cl2‐driven oxychlorination strategy enables bulk oxygen incorporation into close‐packed LixMCl6 (M = Zr, Y, Er, In) halide lattices. Oxygen is selectively anchored by W6+ as lattice‐integrated [WO2Cl4]2− units, regulating the anionic framework, diversifying Li coordination, and weakening Li–Cl interactions.

Atomistic Insights Into Lithium Alloying and Crystallization at Metal Interlayers in Zero‐Excess Lithium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Molecular dynamics simulations with machine learning potentials, combined with experiments, reveal how interlayer metals govern Li alloying and crystallization in zero‐excess lithium batteries. Mg and Zn promote solid‐solution alloy‐mediated pathways that influence Li diffusion and structural uniformity, while Bi forms ordered intermetallics with more ...

Boolean Operations on Arbitrary Polyhedral Meshes

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2015
AbstractA floating-point arithmetic algorithm designed for solving usual boolean operations (intersection, union, and difference) on arbitrary polyhedral meshes is described in this paper. It can be used in many pre- and post-processing applications in computational physics (e.g.

Experimental and Numerical Flow Assessment of the Main and Additional Tract of Prototype Differential Brake Valve

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The throughput of the pneumatic brake valve is a key parameter in ensuring fast and safe vehicle braking. The instantaneous value of this parameter determines the short response time of the system to an operator’s force.
