Endothelial Differentiation of Human Stem Cells Seeded onto Electrospun Polyhydroxybutyrate/Polyhydroxybutyrate-Co-Hydroxyvalerate Fiber Mesh

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Tissue engineering is based on the association of cultured cells with structural matrices and the incorporation of signaling molecules for inducing tissue regeneration. Despite its enormous potential, tissue engineering faces a major challenge concerning the maintenance of cell viability after the implantation of the constructs.

In Vitro studies of bioactive glass/polyhydroxybutyrate composites

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2006
Bioactive materials can help bone reparation and regeneration by offering support to bone growth. In vitro studies of bioactive glass/polyhydroxybutyrate composites were carried out to evaluate the influence of the composition on the bioactivity through ...

Novel polyhydroxyalkanoate beads for use as a vaccine against tuberculosis : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology at Massey University, Manawatū, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Tuberculosis was in 1993 declared as a re-emerging disease by the World Health Organization. The only vaccine currently available, BCG, an attenuated strain of Mycobacterium bovis, does not protect adults against the pulmonary disease, which is the ...

A life-cycle assessment of poly-hydroxybutyrate extraction from microbial biomass using dimethylcarbonate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Poly-hydroxyalkanoates are an example of biodegradable and biocompatible polymers, produced from renewable raw materials. With respect to other bioplastics the market share of poly-hydroxyalkanoates is still limited because of their commercial costs.

Natural Antioxidants as Thermal Stabilizers in Fully Biobased PHBV Compounds

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 9, March 5, 2026.
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are promising biobased polymers but degrade easily under heat and oxygen. This study examines PHBV with natural antioxidants to enhance thermal stability during processing. Results show regenerative additives prevent degradation and the effectiveness is comparable to that of synthetic additives.

Coupling Nitrogenous Organic Wastewater Treatment and Biorefinery via N‐Cycling Bacterium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 7, 3 February 2026.
The vast reservoir of nitrogenous organic pollutants in industrial wastewaters can serve as untapped carbon‐nitrogen resources. This study employs the newly discovered Paracoccus sp. ZQW‐1 as a versatile chassis to simultaneously achieve N‐methylpyrrolidone (NMP) wastewater depuration and polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) synthesis.

Optimization and characterization of bioplastic produced by Bacillus cereus SE1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Bioplastics can be defined as plastics made of biomass such as corn, sugarcane etc. These substances have been increasingly spotlighted as means to saving fossil fuels, reducing CO2 emission and plastic wastes.

Microbial BioRemediation Database: A Comprehensive Database of Genes Involved in Microbial Bioremediation Processes

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 1, February 2026.
We present the Microbial BioRemediation (MBR) database, a curated resource of over 642,000 bacterial protein sequences involved in the degradation of 564 environmental pollutants. By enabling rapid functional profiling of microbial genomes and communities across both environmental and host‐associated ecosystems, MBR supports the identification of key ...
