In vitro and in vivo evaluation of polyhydroxybutyrate and of polyhydroxybutyrate reinforced with hydroxyapatite

Biomaterials, 1991
Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a polyester made by many microorganisms under conditions of nitrogen deficiency, and is produced commercially in bulk by biotechnology. It has been suggested that PHB-based materials (copolymers and composites) could be suitable for medical applications and may be biodegradable.

Metabolic modeling of polyhydroxybutyrate biosynthesis

Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1998
A mathematical model describing intracellular polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) synthesis in Alcaligenes eutrophus has been constructed. The model allows investigation of issues such as the existence of rate-limiting enzymatic steps, possible regulatory mechanisms in PHB synthesis, and the effects different types of rate expressions have on model behavior ...

Polyhydroxybutyrate synthesis in transgenic flax

Journal of Biotechnology, 2004
Flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) is an annual plant species widely cultivated in temperate climates for bast fibres and linseed oil. Apart from traditional textile use, the fibres are fast becoming an integral part of new composite materials utilized in automobile and constructive industry.

Fabrication and Characterisation of Polymer and Composite Scaffolds Based on Polyhydroxybutyrate and Polyhydroxybutyrate-Co-Hydroxyvalerate

Key Engineering Materials, 2007
This paper reports the fabrication and characterization of three-dimensional, highly porous polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), polyhydroxybutyrate-co-valerate (PHBV) and composite scaffolds made by the emulsion freezing / freezing-drying technique. Freeze-drying of the polymer/solvent/ water phase emulsions produced hard and tough scaffolds with interconnected

On Morphology of Polyhydroxybutyrate

2013
It is in process installed, that to growth of polarity of dissolvent there is a perfection of a crystal structure and decrease of a share of amorphous phase polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB). It is shown, that a share of a defective crystal phase in films PHB directly proportional to magnitude of cohesive energy of dissolvent.
