Starch is an abundant, inexpensive, natural raw material which permits the development of products recyclable to atmospheric CO2 when biodegraded or incinerated. These characteristics have excited a renewed interest in starch-based plastics, as testified by an impressive literature in recent years.

Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing, 2004
This paper reviews the state of the art with regard to the numerical modelling of the performance of polymer composite structural members and components at elevated temperature. The methods available for thermal modelling, i.e. the prediction of temperature distributions, within polymer composites acting alone and also when they act in conjunction with

Microscale Polymer−Nanotube Composites
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2009Polymer colloids with an interfacial coating of purified single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are synthesized from length- and type-sorted SWCNTs. Aqueous nanotube suspensions sorted through density-gradient ultracentrifugation are used to emulsify spherical polymer colloids of microscale dimensions that are characterized through a combination of ...

Polymer‐composite ball lightning
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2001Investigations into the state of ball lightning (BL) have been made, and both theory and experiments, related to so-called "polymer-composite" ball lightning, are presented. The properties of such a polymeric BL have been described and are that of a long-lived object capable of storing high energy.
