Bitumen modified with reactive polymers
2012The aim of this paper was to study the effect of the addition of two types of reactive terpolymers on the bitumen rheology. Eight polymer-modified bitumens (PMBs) were produced by mixing two types of bitumens with two types of reactive polymers, ethylene – butylacrylate – glycidylmethacrylate Elvaloy AM and Elvaloy 4170 terpolymers, using polymer ...

Modified Bitumens Containing Thermoplastic Polymers
Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1980Abstract The mechanical and viscoelastic behaviour of bitumen, both at high and low temperature, is noticeably improved by addition of thermoplastic polymers such as thermoplastic SBS rubbers and atactic polypropylene. These polymers can be used complementary to each other. Atactic polypropylene decreases the flow of bitumen at room temperature,

Artificial aging of polymer modified bitumens
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2000This paper presents an investigation of artificial aging of polymer modified binders, prepared from three base bitumens and six polymers. Aging of the binders was performed using the Thin Film Oven Test (TFOT), the Rolling Thin Film Oven Test (RTFOT), and modified RTFOT (MRTFOT).

Recycled Polymers for Use as Bitumen Modifiers
Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2001The volume of waste polymer being produced continues to rise. Disposal is difficult and waste exceeds acceptable levels. The purpose of this research is to examine the possibility of incorporating waste polymer into bitumen as a modifier. The aim was to find recycled polymer modified binders that would be similar to proven modified binders or that ...

Thermal fatigue of polymer modified bitumen
Journal of Thermoplastic Composite Materials, 2011Thermal fatigue is a serious distress in flexible pavement that reduces performance and durability. Many researchers have made efforts to understand the thermal fatigue phenomenology. Until now, there has not existed a standard test method for evaluating mixture and binder resistance to thermal fatigue.

Chapter 16 Polymer-Modified Bitumen
1994Publisher Summary A wide range of modified bitumens are available to meet various challenges faced by the engineer. This chapter describes the role of bitumen modifiers, types of polymeric modifiers, influence of bitumen constitution, manufacture of the polymer-modified bitumens, properties of polymer-modified bitumens, and products and applications.
