Polymer Solar Cells

2007
Polymer solar cells, a highly innovative research area for the last decade until today, are currentlymaturing with respect to understanding of their fundamental processes of operation. The increasing interestof the scientific community is well reflected by the—every year—dynamically rising number ofpublications. This chapter presents an overview of the

Nanostructured polymer solar cells

2008 IEEE International Reliability Physics Symposium, 2008
Polymer solar cells generally contain a low bandgap p-type conjugated polymer as photosensitizer and an inorganic or organic n-type semiconductor as electron acceptor. We investigated two nanostructured composites of the complementary semiconductors: nanometer-scale blends and interpenetrating nanorod arrays.

Translucent Polymer Solar Cells

ECS Transactions, 2009
The recent developments on the construction of translucent cathodes for the application of tandem or multi-junction organic solar cells are reviewed in this report. The translucent cathode plays a major role in determining the efficiency of translucent solar cells by controlling the intensity of incident light absorption at the photoactive layer of ...

Bulk Heterojunction Polymer Solar Cells

Frontiers in Optics, 2005
Recent developments on bulk-heterojunction polymer photovoltaic diodes will be presented, focusing on the mechanism of charge generation, low bandgap polymers for increased photon absorption, and on the importance of phase separation in these photoactive blends.

Biodegradable polymer solar cells

Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, 2008
Abstract Polymer photovoltaic devices were prepared using a biodegradable poly- l -lactic acid (PLLA) substrate loaded with nanoclay in an attempt to improve the thermal properties and possibly reduce permeation of water and oxygen. The nanoclay-loaded PLLA substrates were prepared by compounding and extrusion.

Polymer semiconductor solar cells

1978 International Electron Devices Meeting, 1978
We report the first solar cell whose junction is formed by a polymer-semiconductor interface. Open circuit voltages, V oc > 0.7 V have been observed on cells consisting of a thin film of polymeric sulfur-nitride, (SN) x , deposited on GaAs. This is an enhancement of more than 40% over the V oc commonly measured with metal-GaAs solar cells.

Polymer Solar Cells: Solubility Controls Fiber Network Formation

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2015
The photoactive layer of polymer solar cells is commonly processed from a four-component solution, containing a semiconducting polymer and a fullerene derivative dissolved in a solvent-cosolvent mixture. The nanoscale dimensions of the polymer-fullerene morphology that is formed upon drying determines the solar cell performance, but the fundamental ...

Indaceno‐Based Conjugated Polymers for Polymer Solar Cells

Macromolecular Rapid Communications, 2018
AbstractPolymer solar cells have received considerable attention due to the advantages of low material cost, tunable band gaps, ultralight weight, and high flexible properties, and they have been a promising organic photovoltaic technology for alternative non‐renewable fossil fuels for the past decade.

7.7% Efficient All‐Polymer Solar Cells

Advanced Materials, 2015
By controlling the polymer/polymer blend self-organization rate, all-polymer solar cells composed of a high-mobility, crystalline, naphthalene diimide-selenophene copolymer acceptor and a benzodithiophene-thieno[3,4-b]thiophene copolymer donor are achieved with a record 7.7% power conversion efficiency and a record short-circuit current density (18.8 ...

Hybrid Silicon Nanocone–Polymer Solar Cells

Nano Letters, 2012
Recently, hybrid Si/organic solar cells have been studied for low-cost Si photovoltaic devices because the Schottky junction between the Si and organic material can be formed by solution processes at a low temperature. In this study, we demonstrate a hybrid solar cell composed of Si nanocones and conductive polymer.
