Nd-complex-doped polymer channel waveguide laser [PDF]
Laser operation at 1060 nm with slope efficiency of 0.95% and 440 μW output power for 2% outcoupling was demonstrated in Nd-complex-doped FDA/epoxy channel waveguides, in what to our knowledge is the first report of a rare-earth-ion-doped polymer ...

Exploring the Potential of Microwave Annealing for Enhancing Si‐based GeSn Lasers
We explore low‐thermal‐budget microwave annealing to enhance the performance of group‐IV GeSn lasers on Si. Microwave annealing under optimal conditions can simultaneously relax unwanted compressive strain and enhance the material quality of the GeSn active layer, thereby reducing the threshold and increasing the laser operating temperature.

Advances on Polymer Optical Fiber Gratings Using a KrF Pulsed Laser System Operating at 248 nm
This paper presents the achievements and progress made on the polymer optical fiber (POF) gratings inscription in different types of Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs) and long period gratings (LPGs). Since the first demonstration of POFBGs in 1999, significant

Electro-Absorption Optical Modulator Based on Graphene-Buried Polymer Waveguides
By exploiting the electro-absorption characteristic of graphene, we proposed and theoretically demonstrated an electro-absorption optical modulator (EOM) based on the graphene-buried polymer waveguides.

Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Towards Low Cost Coupling Structures for Short-Distance Optical Interconnections [PDF]
The performance of short distance optical interconnections in general relies very strongly on coupling structures, since they will determine the overall efficiency of the system to a large extent.
