Recent advances in controlled/living polymerization techniques and highly efficient coupling chemistries have enabled the facile synthesis of complex polymer architectures with controlled dimensions and functionality. As an example, star polymers consist of many linear polymers fused at a central point with a large number of chain end functionalities ...

Probing Polymer/Polymer Interfaces
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2002Infrared-visible sum frequency generation spectroscopy (SFG) has been used to study the interface between poly(vinyl-N-octadecylcarbamate-co-vinyl acetate) (Comb) and deuterated or hydrogenated polystyrene (dPS or hPS) films. Strong methyl symmetric and Fermi resonance bands associated with the alkyl side chains of the Comb polymer are observed in the ...

Stratification in Drying Polymer–Polymer and Colloid–Polymer Mixtures
Langmuir, 2017Drying polymer-polymer and colloid-polymer mixtures were studied using Langevin dynamics computer simulations. Polymer-polymer mixtures vertically stratified into layers, with the shorter polymers enriched near the drying interface and the longer polymers pushed down toward the substrate.

Electroluminescence of a Polymer Film with a Polymer/Polymer Interface
JETP Letters, 2019The effect of a two-dimensional quantum-confined structure formed at a polymer/polymer interface on the radiative recombination of excitons (i.e., electroluminescence) is investigated. It is shown that the implementation of such a structure in a polymer film leads to an increase in the emission intensity by more than two orders of magnitude and a ...

Polymer-polymer interaction parameters in solvent/polymer/polymer ternary systems
European Polymer Journal, 1981Abstract Empirical equations defining the relationships between b23 and χ23 interaction parameters for the ternary systems toluene (1)/poly(dimethylsiloxane), PDMS, (2)/polystyrene, PS, (3) and benzene (1)/PDMS(2)/PS(3) have been determined. The dependences of both interaction parameters on the mean molecular weights of the macromolecular components ...

Chemical Reviews, 2001
Various aspects of supramolecular polymer were discussed. The hydrogen bonding enforced by liquid crystallinity and phase separation in the supramolecuar polymers were examined. The supramolecular polymers, based on discotic molecules, such as tryphenylenes, pthalocyanines and porphyrins were also elaborated.

Polymer-Polymer Phase Behavior
Science, 1991Different polymers can be combined into a single material in many ways, which can lead to a wide range of phase behaviors that directly influence the associated physical properties and ultimate applications. Four factors control polymer-polymer phase behavior: choice of monomers, molecular architecture, composition, and molecular size. Current theories

Polymer/Solvent and Polymer/Polymer Interaction Studies
1979Abstract : The technique of gas chromatography has been used to investigate the solution properties of many solvents with a propargyl (acetylene-terminated) sulfone (PATS). In this case, unlike previous work on the RADEL polysulfone, no correlation between the strength of the specific interaction parameter and the solubility as determined from beaker ...
